Show June 2,1978 The USAF Hospital, Hill, offers the following instructions on cast care on arms and legs: Arm, leg casts require care Casts require approximately 48 hours to dry. Avoid resting the cast on hard surfaces or sharp edges for 48 hours. This avoids denting the cast and placing pressure to the area underneath the dent. Watch for the danger signs after an arm or leg cast has been applied: Deep persistent pain, or severe pain when at- - tempting to straighten fingers or toes. After the Leg Cast is dry: HILL TOP TIMES Pagt Move about as normally as possible. Wet weather care for leg cast with walker. Encase the cast in a plastic or rubber sack or boot while outside. Remove the plastic or rubber boot when inside. No cover is necessary for a cast without a walker and the patient is on crutches. Do not insert wire hangers or any other devices into the cast. The skin may be broken and an infection started. to repair it yourself. Call t If the cast breaks, do not attempt 7 the Orthopedic Clinic, at the next day. 777-168- |
