An open cylinder and a leaky carburetor provided the fumes, a sparkplug provided the ignition, and the combination provided the fireworks. The results are apparent. The sources are many, but sources are ineffective unless they have an adequate supply of combustible material to ignite. A lighted match is harmless unless there's something to burn. So you might not be able to fully control the sources of ignition, but you can control the type and amount of combustible materials "stored" in your garage. This is the real key to preventing fires on this type. are the Air Military Training Force The realignment will establish a duel or organization at each center. The center commanders will have at least two deputy one for commanders, technical training and one for resource management. tri-depu- mm - CHARRED SUZUKI This motorcycle was being tuned-u- p inside a garage on base when an open cylinder and leaky carburetor mixed with a sparkplug. It is a jumble of garden tools, lawn mower, tires, toys, gasoline, paint, barbecue g list of lighter fluid, oil, thinners, pesticides, and a used and unused paraphernalia. It is sometimes an accident waiting to happen, a powder keg with a short fuse waiting for a careless person to light it. Last year, that short fuse was lit 25,000 times in garages across the nation, to the tune of $36,000,000 in losses. But garages don't have to be hazardous. It depends on a little common sense, a little work, and a little upkeep. Here are some tips that might help prevent a serious fire in your garage: The Keesler center will also have a deputy commander for maintenance. ty In addition to cutting costs, Air Force officials say the reorganization will streamline management and standardize the basic organizational structure at ATC bases. Smoke detectors can be very valuable for early warning, since you probably won't smell smoke from the garage until the blaze has a good start. Clean it up. Keep it clean. Make timely donations to the city dump. An orderly, clean garage, with proper storage and housekeeping, can be a real asset. If you can get your car in, you've taken a step in the right direction.
