The Director of Maintenance has advised me that the Production Branch. Aircraft Division (MABP) has and is attempting to abide by the Agreement in all cases. However, MABP has approximately 175 supervisors and each supervisor has an alternate, which makes it di fficult to check without specific information. If you are aware of known violations, request you contact George Lepas, ext. 3984, or the People Line, giving information as to the organization in violation so a reviewr and appropriate corrective action can be taken. Q I want to find out if the water in Area C which has turned a dark green color in the last couple of weeks is safe to drink and if it is causing the outrageous diarrhea that everyone we know in Area C has had? Union-Manageme- If you have a question, comment, suggestion or problem you want to bring to my attention, dial "People Line," ext. 7000. Your remarks will be recorded 24 hours a day, staffed and a reply prepared. I or my vice commander will personally review' those printed in this column. I am sincerely interested in the questions asked and the concerns expressed through the "People Line." It gives me the opportunity to explain why a certain decision was made or why a particular policy was implemented. KAFALKO Major General, USAF Commander Q In Building 205 we are always getting written up for having dirty box pallets and housekeeping and this sort of thing. These box pallets come back from supply full of dirt, candy wrappers, beer bottles, pop bottles, and everything else they want to put in it. They use it for a garbage can. Is there something that can be done about this so we don't have to keep on cleaning out these pallets? A A We appreciate your concern in this matter and are not minimizing the problem of the unpleasant taste, odor and color of the water you are drinking; however, the Bioenvironmental Engineering Division has run biological tests on the water and has found no evidence of disease causing organisms. This problem is caused by algae growth in an uncovered resevoir on base, and the onl y solution to eliminate this problem is to cover the reservoir. Civil Engineering has programmed a military construction project (MCP) to cover the reservoir for several years. Because of lack of funds and low priority the projecfis now programmed for FY 79 at a cost of $556,000. In an effort to minimize the problem the reservoir was emptied and cleaned on August 16 and 17th, and until such time as the reservoir is covered, Civil Engineering will add copper sulfate and chlorine directly to the reservoir in an effort to control the algae growth. VVWVAAVAWAAAAAAAAAAAAXAAAAAAAAV SUBJECT: NCO Club Resignation TO: Ogden ALC-CC I We have had this problem before and have asked everyone to stop littering our box pallets and reuseable containers. They are routed through many organizations at the Ogden ALC. It is requested that the caller bring any future incidents to the attention of his or her immediate supervisor so that corrective action can be taken. ot Q I would like to make an inquiry regarding the People Line article published in the Hill Top Times which stated rides and regulations about alternate foremen and the length of time they can hold the job. In Maintenance Division in the hangars there arealternate foremen that have been in that capacity for eight years that I know of. If we are living by rules and regulations, why can't this be checked into and stopped, so that other employees can have this same opportunity? These young men wear the same uniform and uphold the same rights of this country as we do. Again, I highly suggest that we take another look at the unselfish service we provide for others. s- -- CHINESE, AMERICAN or POLYESIAN FOOD The concern you have expressed for our airmen and their needs focuses on the heart of a very contemporary problem. I, too, share your concern in the lack of a club facility for their entertainment. As you know, the proposal to admit all enlisted ranks to the NCO Club was a matter of business at the last general membership meeting. The member participation at this meeting was disappointing, and the proposal for an all ranks club was not favorably considered. As the Center Commander. I am sincerely concerned with the welfare and morale of the enlisted force. Further, expect the supervisors to be particularly aware of the needs of their people. We are concerned about "service", to all of our people, and hopefully, as a result of your letter, your fellow noncommissioned officers will be responsive to those needs. With ths completion of the new club rapidly approaching, we must increase membership to offset the increased operating costs of a larger facility. The new facility will accommodate a considerable number of additional members with relative ease. I am hopeful that this increase in membership will include our airmen w ho wish to join the new club. While I respect your right to terminate your membership. I wonder if you concern would be better served by remaining an active member of your club and continuing to work for acceptance of our young airmen by your peers? I strongly urge you to remain an active participant and lend your support to this effort. I appreciate your concern and individual effort. Your role as a First Sergeant is certainly enriched by your apparent awareness and sensitivity to the needs of your people. Hopefully, others may follow your example of sincerity and concern. -- Fdmund A. Itafalko. Maj. (ien..
