" ... an a witness DURING the course of an investigation, Security Police personnel may interview many individuals and collect much evidence. Statements and other evidence can be presented to a court or other proceeding only to prove or disprove points of issue. All evidence must be properly gathered, preserved and presented to be admissible in a court of law. Without concerned individuals to provide the statements and point out or identify the evidence the Security Policeman's job becomes even more difficult and sometimes impossible. Hill AFB is a large industrial complex where many i affic hazards are frequently encountered. Speed limits are established at maximum safe speeds that can be negotiated at particular locations. Even at our slower speeds we have suffered several serious accidents and therefore the established speed limits on Hill AFB must be strictly enforced. . THE carrying of the United States Flag and the Air Force Flag is an honor bestowed only upon responsible personnel. The Color Guard consists of two noncommissioned officer flag bearers and two guards. Honors are tasks frequently provided by Security Police personnel. Approximataely 6 manhours per week are expended on Hill AFB during such services as Retreat, Honor Guard for VIP and Visiting dignataries, special services-events- , etc. The Color Guard is also provided for events off the installation as a community service. They are frequently called upon to post the. Colors during athletic events and special observances. . . . a checker THE respoasibility for security of public property entrusted to the Air Force rests with the property custodian. Security Policpmen conduct frequent checks of buildings containing high value materials or sensitive items during nonduty hours. These security checks are to assure intruders do not gain entry without being detected. When a facility is found open, the building custodian or other knowledable person mast respond to determine whether . the facility was accidently left insecure or if it was illegally entered. The Security Policeman has no way of knowing what belongs where or if something has been removed. a technician a regulator TRAFFIC control is only one of the services provided by Security Police personnel as a public convenience and to enhance safety. The service is provided at times whenever the presence of an officer will promote safety, school crossing, bus gates, etc. During any given week 42 Security Police man hours are expended during all weather conditions to assist you and those you care for reach destinations as exas and safely possible. peditiously During a 24 hour period automobiles 13,500 are processed through approximately the West Gate alone. The National Safety Council statistics prove that over 50 per cent of the traffic fatalities are alcohol related. Eleven investigations were conducted by Security Police personnel during the first quarter 1974. You can help remove the problem drinker from our roadways by simply refusing to allow someone who has had too much to drink to drive an automobile. If you can't talk them out of driving, alert the Security Police. Remember you or your loved one may meet that person again on the highway. By deterring agression they are in effect a law enforcement agency. The resources must be maintain the response capability. He is not frequently observed by the public during the hours of darkness but the Security Policeman is alert to any condition that could threaten the resources he is responsible to protect. Comforted by that knowledge, all concerned - including the pilots and crews, rest easier. ... crime stop Since it was started several months ago, it has been proved time and again that CRIME STOP and its services do work, stated Maj. J.S. Granducci, Security Police Division. TODAY there are two cases presently being investigated by the OSI, FBI or Secret Service that were initiated by the CRIME STOP telephone call of a concerned citizen. One case was recently resolved. On June 14 a CRIME STOP call was received in the early afternoon regarding government property that a citizen had observed being placed in a private vehicle. The concerned citizen called CRIME STOP, provided the make and license number of the suspect vehicle. AFTER thecall was received, a security policeman was assigned and the vehicle placed under surveillance. As it attempted toleave the base during afternoon rush hour, it was stopped at the gate. The government property was recovered and the suspect apprehended and taken into custody. "To many individuals this'may seem like a cold, hard method of getting a job done. To others it may not seem like such a 'big deal' and to still another group such an act is just ignored because they do not want to 'get involved,' the major said. "The big question is - can any individual sit back and watch someone steal tax dollars? If not, become an involved citizen. Be alert, be watchful, be a Crime Stopper! Call CRIME STOP, ext. 3056.
