Show July 6, t 1973 Who! is a pacer? By Allen Storm pacer is a horse with a lateral gait, but, as the title A suggests, this narrative concerns itself with a whole 'nother pacer. It's about Pacer as it applies to Air Force, projects, exercises and operations, a designation duly assigned by the Joint Chiefs of Staff as stipulated in AFR 205-1. Certainly you have been exposed to a Pacer Goose or Pacer Torch and knew that it was an Air Force project because of the word Pacer. But you may not know there are some very specific-guideline- s as to how, when and where it will - or will not be used. Each military branch has the latitude of creating its own designating names, limited only by specific letters assigned to its branch. The Air Force had the letters p a to work with and came up with the word Pacer. in turn, can be This, combined with any other single word in naming a project, exercise or operation, providing the nickname reated is not now or hasn't c been used within the last two years. The nickname may not reflect an advertised slogan or Get Out And Support product. It must be in the realm of good taste and good judgment. And its connotation must not offend an ally or nation of the free world - or a particular sect. The Joint Chiefs also discourage exotic or trite phrases.
