H m Power Boat Races Begin At Willard Bay Aug. 8 As many as 50,000 spectators are expected to attend the 1970 national championship power boat races at Willard Bay State Park Aug. 8 and 9. The Utah Speedboat Association is hosting the event which will bring more than 200 boats from all over the U. S. and in which 50 Utah drivers, many of them Hill AFB employees, will contend. A committee from the Utah Speedboat Association, organized under the title "Power Boat Nationals for Utah 1970" went to the national convention of the American Power Boat Association last November and bid successfully for the important boating-worl- d event to be held this year in Local Secretary Jean Page of Procurement is secretary of this committee. The American Power Boat Association, the governing organization for all types of power boat racing, is sanctioning the Utah event. Friday, Aug. 7 will be testing and tuning day for the contenders at the Willard Bay South Marina, with Saturday, Aug. 8, featuring the elimination heats. Sunday, Aug. 9 will see the "run for the champions". The four national flatbottom classes to be awarded are Cracker Box, Super Stock, K Racing Run- - The Utah tournament Superstick Entry Another Superstick entry will be Dennis Wells of Boeing Plant 77 who will be a contender with his Super Stock "Billie Be Good". Other classes running will be SK and 150, 266, 280 Hydros. Tickets for the event will be available at Ogden's Municipal Park and also the race site. Saturday prices will be $1.50 per person or $5 per car; Sunday prices, $2 and $6 per car. Committee secretary Jean Page said that the Marina's elevated spectator area can accommodate any crowd.
