The band, comprised mainly of professional musicians, delighted listeners with shows at Utah State, Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, Primary Children's Hospital and several park 36-m- an concerts. Captain Brunner and his jazz music specialists found time to instruct and play at the University of Utah's Jazz Clinic this past week. Television stations KUED and KSL taped their shows. On Disney Staff All this is fun and recreation to Captain Brunner, the band's conductor, who is a member of the musical staff at the Walt Disney Studios the rest of the year. The background music vou heard in the films "Black-beard- 's Ghost", "That Darn Cat" and "Never a Dull Moment" came from his fertile mind. The last title sort of describes his career. With Welsh and German forebears probably responsible for a precocious musical talent, Captain Brunner was playing the piano at the age of four. By 13 he had rounded up a nine-piec- e band that played for high school dances in West Los Angeles. (One of his pals was Robert Redford, a film star who also likes Utah.) Devoted to Music His bands got larger and larger, and by the time he had finished a year at U.C.L.A. he knew his life would be devoted to music. So he enlisted in the Air Force National Guard and kept right on playing. He is an accomplished pianist, and also plays the bass instruments, and guitar, trombone and theremin. He composes and arranges for the in- struments. Not many young people play CLOTHIER Presents a New Beautiful SADDLE WING IW Work park ;; Lni in fully with Capt. Robert F. It is an electronic device invented by a Russian, Leon Theremin, that is "a console with an antenna" played with hands that move across the electric field but do not touch the instrument. It is difficult to play and requires a very acute ear for producing its deliberate rhythmic melodies, that are beautiful and y.
