This family had heard many stories in the "Old Country" about America. : Feel Grateful I live happily in one of the most wonderful and progressive towns in Utah, Kaysville. I can't help but feel grateful towards Hill Air Force Base, because if it wasn't there, Kaysville wouldn't be the thriving little city it is today. Because of the nearness of Kaysville to the base, many of "Hill's" em ployees have chosen it and neigh boring towns to make their homes in. As a result of this, the population and the industry have greatly increased and is constantly rising. To Page the people who live in these towns, Hill Air Force Base is one of the major factors in their lives. It enters directly or indirectly into their culture, their education, and their economic welfare. If "Hill" were to close down, not only would the 11,000 Utahns working at the base lose their jobs, but hundreds of people working in the various private businesses and industries in Utah would be out of work. Utah would be faced with the problem of mass unemployment and depression. Every business in Davis and its surrounding counties receives much of its support from Hill Air Force Base. It employs 13,000 persons at the average wage estimate of $4800, the bulk of which is paid into Utah for goods, services, and taxes. If it were not for this money and the money the base it self spends, Utahns couldn't possibly!: maintain the high standard of living they currently enjoy.
