In devotional Thursday of last week Dr. McDermid spoke to the student body and teachers on subject "Preventitive Medicine as Applied to the Panamal Can al" In his talk Dr. McDermid explained that the reason the French failed to complete the Panama Canal was that they failed to protect the workman a gainst diseases prevalent in hot countries and thus lost a large per cent of their workmen. America's success in completing the canal was due possibly to work of the physician in keeping the canal zone in a healthy condition, as to the engineer and workmen.
