New Opportunity Given Veterans of World War II Almost 2.4 million World War II servicemen have a new opportunity to obtain GI home loans according to an estimate by the Veterans Administration. Ad-ministration. One provision of Public Law 90-77, 90-77, signed recently by the President benefits veterans who had relatively rela-tively long periods of World War II service. The final cutoff date for GI loans for these men and women was extended from July 25, 1967 to July 25, 1970. Mr. Elmer Smith, Manager of the Salt! Lake VA Regional Office said that the length of t'me an indivi-dualveteran indivi-dualveteran remains eligible for GI loan benefits depends on his date of discharge and the length of his active wartime duty. Also, all World War II veterans discharged for service-connected dis abilities will have until July 25, 1970, to use their GI loan benefits. Eligible widows of World War II servicemen or veterans whose deaths were due to military service received the same extension. All veterans who have Certificates Certifica-tes of Eligibility bearing a July 25, 1967 expiration date were urged to submit a new application and their discharge papers to the VA office serving their area. VA will compute their expiration date and endorse the new date on their certificates. Any World War II veteran may 'apply to the VA for a determination determina-tion of eligibility for GI loan benefits. bene-fits. The VA pointed out, however, that the new legislation does not extend eligibility which expired before be-fore July 25, 1967. Give your college student a subscription sub-scription to the Millard Co. Elk Season Opens Saturday for Over 3400 Hunters Elk season opens this Saturday when all but three of the elk units open for over 4,000 elk permit hold ers who will be pursuing animals from the ever popular Cache to the newest elk unit on the La Sal Mountains. Over 3400 of the hunters out will be holders of the new open bull elk permits for the Manti and Uinta Mountain areas. This new hunt was designed to give more Utahn's a chance to hunt elk than was possible under the restricted permit piogram. Those participating in the elk hunts are reminded it is required to leave evidence of sex attached to the carcass. All elk hunters were advised to go prepared to handle the large animals ani-mals they are hunting and to spend the entire season afield if necessary. neces-sary. Special elk permits must be car ried by the hunter at all times while in the field. Legal weapons again include any center fire calibre cal-ibre rifle or bow and arrow. Home Agent Says: PACK IN POPCORN If you're going to send perishables perish-ables by mail, pack them in popcorn, pop-corn, advises MarGenne B. Rowley, Millard County extension agent. One manufacturer of model car kits, which each year sponsors a model car contest, insists that ill entries be packed in popcorn. Few cars are damaged that way, he says. But more than 75 per cent of the cars packed in other materials arrive damaged. At the end of the contest, the manufacturer always ships the cars back in popcorn. Once they had trouble finding 1,100 pounds of popcorn for the job, until someone remembered that a circus was in town. That year some of the contestants contest-ants had their cars returned in salted, buttered, and even cheesed popcorn. Although you probably won't be sending model cars, you may have some fragile Christmas gift that needs special cushioning or plan to send a cake or cookies to someone some-one away from home. Try packaging packag-ing them in pepcorn. s-j ft) HKTUCKY SIMiCHT MjftM WHISW PROOF. OlSlllUO for people going places... Li i . , CLASSIFIED CLASSIFIED RATES: 3c per word, minimum ad 50c. Anyway, Nov., 1968 is a long way from now and there is time to reach a decision. But you know, it seems as if we're adrift. Rather like a ship at sea without a master. Do I sound cynical? cyn-ical? I am getting- that way and I don't like it about myself. If there are as many ills in our land as I seem to think there are the 1968 elections can't possibly make that much difference! I'm getting older. Remember my writing1 you in my last letter that Albert Reid and I were going out for the calf-roping contest in the Days of the Old West Rodeo? I was glad that he never mentioned it to me. I hated to say "no." The night I attended the rodeo Albert wasn't there, either. At least not in the calf-roping contest. Well, dear, I must close. Take care of yourself. You know I once read that "take care of yourself" means "I love you." Do you think that's true? This person said that "Take care of yourself" actually says "Take care of yourself for me" and that we use that rather than "I love you" for fear of committing ourselves. How about that?
