Show Millard County Chronicle Thursday, April 14, 1960 CI fMi I iK.fif; AITAKAIU: f t - En tg aged m lit-: I .- ' David Eppich Wins Second Place In Science Division David Eppich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rosslyn Eppich and a senior at D.H.S., won second place in the Physical Science Division at the Southern Utah Regional Science Fair held at Dixie College on April 8-9. He received a very valuable handbook on Mathematics, Chemistry, Chemis-try, and Physics, along with a place to exhibit his "Reconstruction of Millikan's Oil-drop Apparatus" at the State Science Fair on April 16. When asked to explain its use, David said that "It is used to prove the existence of the electron as a particle and to measure the amount of charge on one electron." Millikan received the Noble Prize for his research on the electron. David has reconstructed his apparatus appa-ratus and performed the same or similar experiments and gained the same or similar data. Besides Mr. Jacobson and David, two other Science Club members, Max Holbrook and Bob Barber, at-tennded at-tennded the fair. We are sure that all of them gained much from this trip. We congratulate David on his fine accomplishment and wish him luck at the State Science Fair on Saturday in Salt Lake City. Miss Bunker will graduate in May, April Shower Honors Ilririe A bridal shower Friday honored Mrs. Ray Dutson, the former Susan Beckwith, at the home of her mother, moth-er, Mrs. Wanda Beckwith. The faride greeted guests from five to nine o'clock, and received many best wishes and gifts for the home the couple is making near Hinckley. For the occasion Mrs. Dutson wore a gown of light beige, styled with fitted bodice and full skirt, with a bouffant lace overskirt. Her corsage was bronzed carnations. Spring flowers decorated the home, with arrangements of Dutch iris, jonquils, daffodils and blue carnations. In the evening Hawaii-1 an music recordings were played by Eleanor Kaloi. Assisting with serving were Jane Beckwith, sister of the bride, Kath-ryn Kath-ryn Maxfield and Karen Killpack. Carrying gifts were the young sister sis-ter and brother of the bride, Deborah Deb-orah and Frank Collins. Miss Eneanor Kaloi entertained the group with colorful dances and songs of Hawaii. She also told interesting in-teresting stories of the people of the islands and their traditions. After this she had the group join with her in singing some of the songs and learning some of the dances, Everyone enjoyed this lovely entertainment. en-tertainment. Thursday, March 31, the Lyric Lore Club members entertained their husbands at the annual birthday birth-day party of the Club. The group met at the Delta Cafe where a delicious chicken dinner was served to 30 guests, with the tables gaily decorated with daffodils, daffo-dils, calla lillies and apricot bos-soms. bos-soms. After the dinner the group adjourned to the home of Mr, and Mrs. June Black, for entertainment, and each lady received a birthday gift. GIRL STATER'S SELECTED Mrs. Irene Little, chairman of the Girls' State committee of the American Legion Auxiliary, announces an-nounces three girls from Delta High School will take the week long trip to Logan in June to Girls State. The girls are Virginia Jensen, VIRGINIA JENSEN daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jensen, Sugarville; Elsie McCullough, McCul-lough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton McCullough, Delta RFD; Pamela Robison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Robison, Sutherland. The girls were chosen for their fine character traits of leadership elsie McCullough and scholastic ability and pleasant personalities. Mrs. Ella Black spent last week in Salt Lake, Provo and Spanish Fork attending Conference, three sessions of the DUP Convention and visiting friends and relatives. The new officers: Dan Hansen, President; Glena Moody, Vice President; Pre-sident; Barbara Black, Secretary, were installed by Betty Turner, West Millard P.T.A. Council President. Presi-dent. Principal Gertrude Western made brief remarks and gave thanks to the outgoing officers of the organization organi-zation for their cooperation of the last two years. She then presented each lady with a beautiful corsage. Outgoing officers are Norma Wad-dingham, Wad-dingham, President; Sharon Rawlinson, Raw-linson, Vice President; Peggy Crane, Secretary; Merilyn Bishop, Chairman Chair-man of Room Mothers and Patty Dalton, Program Director. Musical numbers were presented by Mrs. Fullmer's Third Grade Room. The children presented an outstanding medleyof their favorite favo-rite songs. Principal C. L. Bennett, DHS, was guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Bennett spoke on developing better bet-ter attitudes and clear thinking In children. He pointed out how parents par-ents could do this and urged all parents to work with teachers toward to-ward this goal. Mr. Bennett made the statement that the teaching of skills should be left to teachers. Other topics discussed were the awakening of creative ability in children and the instilling of appreciation ap-preciation and reverence early in life.
