Bennett of Delta is one of 49 participants in a National Na-tional Science Foundation sponsored sponsor-ed summer institute for secondary school teachers of science and mathematics at Utah State University. Uni-versity. The institute began June 15 and will run for 10 weeks. A grant of $75,800 from NSF supports the institute, in-stitute, aimed at upgrading science and mathematics preparation of teachers in junior high schools or other schools giving instruction at the junior high level. Students' receive re-ceive stipends to cover living expenses ex-penses and NSF also pays their tuition. tu-ition. Mrs. Bennett was selected from among several hundred applicants from all over the nation. Sixteen states (Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Wy-oming, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Mex-ico, Michigan, Minnesota, Washington, Washing-ton, Iowa, Oregon, Arkansas, California, Cal-ifornia, Texas and Illinois) are represented. rep-resented. Primary criterion for selection se-lection was capacity to develop as a teacher and profit from the program, pro-gram, according to Dr. Neville C Hunsaker, head of the mathematics mathemat-ics department at Utah State U., and institute director. Three five-quarter-hour courses are being offered. They are Principles Prin-ciples of Biological Science, First Principles of Physical Science, and Basic Mathematics from an Advanced Ad-vanced Standpoint. The institute is a special feature of Utah State University's 1959 National Na-tional Summer School. Couple Honored At Reception A reception following their wedding wed-ding will honor Miss LaRue Juste-sen Juste-sen and Mr. Neil Christopherson Saturday night, June 20, in Delta Second Ward. All friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be a program and dancing. The couple will exchange wedding wed-ding vows at 8 o'clock Saturday evening in the Relief Society rooms at the Second Ward, in the presence pres-ence of close 'friends and members of the families. Rummage Sale Raises $175.00 For Hospital Fund The Sunshine Club sponsored a rummage sale June 11, for the purpose pur-pose of raising money for the Hospital Hos-pital Benefit Fund. Every club member, who was here and able, worked diligently to make it a success. We were gratified with the contributions con-tributions handed in by our local stores and people of this area. It netted us $175.00. We are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Meltire Workman for the use of their building without charge and to those who contributed to the sale to those who purchased our goods. Their marriage took place in the Manti Temple. The newlyweds were feted later Wednesday at a wedding breakfast in Manti, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Archie Griffin, of Boise, Idaho, parents par-ents of the bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. William Van Bishop of Delta are parents of the bride, and hosted the reception for the couple Thusday evening in Deseret Stake House at Delta. The bride was lovely in a gown of lace and tulle underscored with satin. The bouffant skirt was floor-length, floor-length, and the fitted bodice had a sabrina neckline and sleeves tapering tap-ering to points at the wrists. Her fingertip veil of illusion was caught to a tiara of sequins and seed pearls. Lewis, whose marriage vows were made June 6 in the Manti Temple. The bride Is the former Miss Mar-lena Mar-lena Carling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fon Roy Hawley, of Oasis. Mr. Lewis is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Mark L. Lewis, of Petaluma, Calif. Greeting friends, the lovely bride was gowned in traditional white. Her floor-length gown with bouffant bouf-fant skirt, was of nylon tulle and lace appliques, underscored with satin. The fitted bodice was styled with sabrina neckline and long tapered sleeves. Her fingertip veil i 1 of tulle was held by a tiny) cap of scalloped tulle and pearls. She carried car-ried a bouquet of white orchid surrounded sur-rounded by white carnations. Bridal attendants were Miss Mar-cia Mar-cia Keller, maid of honor, and Miss Loabelle Black and Miss Carolyn Cahoon. They were gowned in blue, and carried baskets of pink and white daisies. The mother of the bride was gowned in pink, and mother of the bridegroom chose a gown of blue. They wore corsages of white carnations. car-nations. Lavon Boyenger performed best man duties for Mr. Lewis. Stephen Graham, nephew of the bridegroom, ushered. The beautiful tiered wedding cake was made and decorated by Mrs. Betty Johnson. The new Mr. and Mrs. Griffinn both have filled LDS Samoan Islands missions. After a honeymoon trip in Oregon, Ore-gon, the couple will return to make a home in Boise. Honored Mareia Bradshaw, of Salt Lake City, was in charge of the guest book, while Louise and Patsy Car-ling Car-ling had charge of the gift room. Gifts were carried by Linda and Carolyn Nickle, Danny Young, Paul Carling and Gary Robison. - Organ music throughout the evening ev-ening was played by Mrs. Ruth Talbot. Presiding over refreshments were Lucile Sampson, Fern Crafts, Von-da Von-da Moody, Amelia Cole, LaRue Nickle and Nayon Young. Assisting in serving were Elaine Cole, Jane Black, Marlee Young, Norma Jean Strang, Pamela Robison, Chloe Manning and Ina Rae Roper. Hally Kay Young passed napkins. The new Mr. and Mrs. Lewis will spend the summer in Provo, and in the fall will make a home at Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. Lewis will study at Western Reserve Den tal School. Mrs. Thomas Manning and twins. Cherie and Gary, of Logan, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Gardner. Mrs. Manning came down to assist with the wedding reception of Marlena Carling Lewis, Lew-is, last week, and LoaBelle Black, to be held this weekend. EDWARD SKIDMORE RECEIVES OKLAHOMA U. FELLOWSHIP Edward Skidmore has received a three-year fellowshhip to the University of Oklahoma, which will be used to continue his studies In soils. He was graduated In vocational agriculture from Utah State University, Uni-versity, and has spent the past year working on his master's degree. de-gree. He will obtain his Ph. D. degree de-gree at the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Velma, end their young sons, Alan and Andy, will reside at Stillwater, Okla., for the next three years. They visited in Delta last week with Edward's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Skidmore, and left on Monday to drive to Stillwater.
