A special Interest program at MIA last Tuesday evening was very good. Five families took part. The Gordon Nielson family, the Lyman Finlinson family, Ivan and Susan Shipley, Earl and Silvia Harris and the Burton Lovell fam ily. Bishop Don Anderson acted as reader. Misses Arlene Anderson and Bertha Jacobsen gave talks. It was very enjoyable to all who attended. Mr. John Nielson received word of another great grandchild, arriv ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Anderson at Pleasant Grove. Primary conference visitors Wed nesday at Salt Lake were stake board members, Mrs. Erma Nielson and Mrs. Arlene Nielson. On Thursday Thurs-day ward Primary workers, Pres. Ann Roper, Lorna Lovell, Clarice Nielson and Molly Anderson were in Salt Lake for that session of conference. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dutson and little son have moved home from Idaho. They are living at the home of the late E. Q. Dutson. We are happy to have this family living in Oak City again. Thursday of last week, Mrs. Mel issa Jacobsen, Mrs. Ila Jacobsen and Mrs. Enid Jacobsen were in Fillmore to help celebrate the birth day of Mrs. Nina Jacobsen Brunson. Bishop LeRoy Walker Jr. from Washington, visited his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Wal ker. He went on from Oak City to Salt Lake for conference. Miss Marilyn Melville of Salt Lake spent the past week in Oak Citv. a euest of Miss Roberta Lovell. Bishop and Mrs. Malan Mecham, from Tropic, visited in Oak City, with their folks last week. Pfc. Wayne Young of Payson, on 30-day furlough from his base in Hawaii, visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Shipley. Wayne is Marine Larry Shipley's buddy, the oast 6 month at Hawaii. They en joyed having a report of the boys' activities In Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson were in Cedar City Saturday. Mr. Don Schmutz of St. George, spent the weekend in Oak City. His wife and children returned home with him after a two weeks' visit in Oak City. Yes, Calvin Dutson's smile is bigger this week. Mr. Hinckley is Mrs. Elia- son's father. Ronald Theobald from Dugway, spent the weekend with his grand mother, Mrs. Amanda Dewsnup. Mr. and Mrs. George Cropper came from Provo to spend .Saturday .Satur-day and Sunday, visiting with relatives and to attend the funeral for James Mace on Saturday. The West Millard Garden Clubs all met at the Deseret church house Friday evening. Some very helpful information on Gardening and flower raising was given. A large crowd was In attendance. The Deseret Garden Club was the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Rowley were called to Salt Lake City Saturday due to the illness of their daugh ter, Vernell Humphries. We wish her a speedy recovery, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Black spent Monday in Salt Lake on business. Miss Marlena Carling and hei roommate, Miss Linda Mahaffy, of Phoenix, Arizona, both attending the BYU, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fon Roy Hawley. There were a lot of people from out of town to attend the funeral services on Saturday for James Mace. The church house was over flowing with relatives and friends. Mrs, Genpveive Larsen and chil dren from Spanish Fork, came down and spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. , and Mrs. E. J. Eliason and to attend funeral services ser-vices Saturday for her uncle. Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Dutson and sons, June, Gary, and Gill, spent Sunday at Cedar City. Ray Western who Is employed on the UP railroad, spent the week end at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Faun Western. June Dutson, who is attending Snow College at Ephralm, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. end Mrs. O. L. Dutson. a mission in the Hawaiian Islands, that she had to have surgery and is still confined to a hospital there. The Thompsons have been in the Islands for the past fourteen months and Mrs. Thompson has had ill health for some time now. We are surely hoping that her health will improve rapidly now and that she will be able to carry out her duties there. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielson drove to Fillmore Wednesday and took their son Dee, who went from there with a companion on to their new army assignment in Oklahoma. Oklaho-ma. Dee has been home the past two weeks, having served his basic training in Fort Ord, California. Mrs. Rhea Whatcott left Wednes day with" her daughter, Iva How- lett, and small daughter Marie, to Mesa, Arizona. Mrs. Howlett had to take her daughter there for her health, and we are hoping Mrs. Whatcott will be much Improved on her return also. They will visit with Mr. and Mrs. Garth Whatcott and family. Mrs. Evelyn Hogan returned home from Inglewood, Calif., Tuesday and on Thursday, she and Mr, Hogan went to Salt Lake for General Gen-eral Conference. An editor's note states that evidence evi-dence indicates that a great deal of confusion exists in the public mind concerning the beliefs and background of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). (Mor-mon). Therefore, the Mirror-News asked Bishop Wallace R. Reid of the La Cienega Ward to write an explanatory summary for their readers. Bishop Reid, former Deltan and still a frequent visitor, wrote the article that adjoined the picture j and note, giving briefly the basic beliefs of the church's members. Mrs. Clair Gardner, Jr., from Salt Lake City, is visiting at Sutherland and Delta with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avon Barney. John and Dorothy Teichert and Children, Patricia and Matthew, are Delta visitors with their mother, Mrs. Deona Black. Dorothy and the children will be here a month, while Mr. Teichert is on Delta.
