Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alma D. Hayes, for-erly for-erly of Lynndyl and now residents of Salt Lake City. The couple plans to be married In the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple May 23, 1957. They will be honoro-J at a reception given by the bride's parents in Delta on Friday night, May 24. Miss Gardner, Delta High School graduate, attended Brigham Youns University and is presently employed em-ployed in Salt Lake City. Mr. Hayes served the past four years in the U. S. Air Force, and is now employed in Salt Lake City. Deseret Garden Club Reports The meeting held at the Deseret Church, Friday evening April 5, sponsored by the Deseret Garden Club was most successful. A large crowd of men and women were in attendance and spent a very enjoyable en-joyable evening. This meeting was the last of the five meetings outlined as a short course on gardening. The first four were held in Delta. The meeting was under the direction di-rection of Marven Ogden and was presided over by Beth Anderson. There were garden club county officers present as well as members mem-bers from the garden clubs of Hinckley, Hin-ckley, Delta, - Oasis, South Tract, Sugarville, Lynndyl nd Deseret. The first speaker was Thelma Huber, from the Home Economics Department of the Agricultural College. She has been a judge at the flower shows at Deseret several sever-al times and complimented the people on the outstanding displays of flowers we have raised in this area. She introduced the main speaker of the evening who was Mrs. Howard Houseknecht, state garden club officer. Mrs. Houseknecht spoke on the importance of good soil and water in the raising of flowers. She told how to build ' up the soil and the importance of compost and barnyard barn-yard manure. These two things most of us could have, but the lack of water Is our most serious drawback. Mrs. Houseknecht has no annuals ann-uals in her own flower garden but manages to have color there from mid-January until late fall with her bulbs and perennials. In January, Jan-uary, she has crocus and snow drops and each month thereafter something else. She urged us to plant picture gardens. In each garden gar-den plot she plants several different differ-ent kinds of flowers so that there is bloom almost the entire time. Beth Anderson, in behalf of the Salt Lake Tribune presented Oasis and Sugarvi'.Ie Garden Clubs with a beautiful award for their out-, standing work. Prizes of plants were presented to lucky winners by the South Tract and Hinckley Garden Clubs, which was really a nice thing; to do and was surely appreciated. Norma Moody entertained enter-tained us with piano music. At the close of the meeting refreshments re-freshments of delicious petit fours and refreshing punch were served by the Deseret Garden Club pre- - MILK gives you a pickup that lasts MARIE I .
