With a sales exeess over redemp tions of $122 million for the first month of the year, citizens of our country saved $572,490,000 in E and H bonds. This represents more than 10 of the national quota for 1956, reported Frederick P. Champ, State Chairman. "Total sales for Utah in January were 51,330,381. This figure does not include a sizeable allocation usually received in time for this release, representing Utah's share of purchases by military and civil ian government employees , Mr Champ pointed out. County Chairman Munster stated, "This sales excess is indicative of the Dattern for the past three years, during which time more savings bonds were purchased than redeemed each year. Last year was the high spot with more than $700 million sales excess," he added. Already this year eight Utah counties jumped out ahead of their January quota. Several others were reasonably close. Counties reach ing or exceeding their January goal were: Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Sanpete and Washington, it was reported. "We are especially pleased with series E purchases, since we feel the E savings bond is the backbone of individual savings. And this Is heartening proof that more Americans Ameri-cans are turning to this type of savings for a more secure future,' the chairman said.
