For some time prior to her ac ceptance of the national post, Mrs. Chipman had mulled over the idea of promoting a project of teaching the ycung women the value .of wool and the numerous uses to which wool fabrics could be put. She came forth with concrete suggestions and was asked by the American Wool Council to give a talk in San Francisco on promotion work that could be carried through by the Council and Auxiliary. Her suggestions were met with enthusiasm and the project has assumed such proportions that in addition to having become nation wide, has also attracted attention of foreign wool producing countries. coun-tries. It has been Mrs. Chipman's direct responsibility to work with the American Wool Council in setting up the contest in which hundreds of young women have fashioned clothing. Prizes ranging rang-ing from a $400 scholarship to $25.00 savings bonds are given. At the recent national convention conven-tion in San Antonio, Texas, a feature of which was the fashion show in which state winners competed for national honors, Mrs. Chipman had the honor of crowning Mrs. Emery Smith, Salt Lake City, president of the Utah State auxiliary, as "Queen of the Woolies" for 1949, a honor conferred con-ferred upon women above the contest age group. Mrs. Smith modeled a beautiful all-wool formal which she had designed and made herself: The crown, the handwork of Mrs. Marvel Murdock, Heber, was knit of white wool with handembroider-ed handembroider-ed wool flbwers. The fashion show, said Mrs. Chipman, featured not only wearing apparel such as suits, coats and dresses, but formals and housecoats, and demonstrated demonstrat-ed a number of new uses. At the San Antonio meet Mrs. Chipman delivered a talk "We Are the Salt of the Earth" which has since been published in mag azines throughout the nation. The most recent request came this week from a publication in Mississippi. Recently Mrs. Chipman re ceived a handsome sterling silver serving set, the gift of the auxiliaries of the western states to their retirine president.
