Improved Methods Developed For Treatment of Boils Increased knowledge and more effective treatment methods have helped mcdjcal science in its fight against boils, says William W. Bol. ton, M.D., of the Bureau of Health Education, writing in Hygeia, the health magazine. Complicated in-vpstieations in-vpstieations have shown that in some there is a slight variation from normal in the chemical reaction of the skin, in others excessive collections collec-tions of secretion, forming a special culture bed for germs, and in still others a slight excess of sugar content con-tent in the skin cells, although such individuals are definitely nut diabetic. Among other general conditions found to be responsible for boils are anemia, a run down condition and excessive fatigue. . The chronic diseases which may cause boils are nephritis, a disorder of one or both kidneys, tuberculosis and syphilis. It has been stated that a protein-poor diet occasionally may be responsible, responsi-ble, or underactivity of the thyroid gland. - r "rhTee ironclad rules are generally 'tSTCZT I j followed in the treatment of boils "Decause mere is now iuu surgical understanding of the way in which boils are fought by the body," Dr. Bolton said. The rules are: never nev-er cut a boil too early, if it is to be cut at all; never attempt to squeeze or press out the contents and, if a cut is made, never cut widely.' Dr. Bolton ' points out that "in the average case all that is needed is a dressing protection. Frequently germ destroying oint ments may be indicated, if for no other reason than to prevett spread of infection to adjacent portions of the skin." Want Ads FOR SALE Good Kimball Piano $165. Terms. Ancient Peruvian Valley A story of 3,000 years of human culture is being uncovered in the Viru Valley of northern Peru. The Viru is a fertile strip between barren bar-ren hills, about ten miles long and five miles wide, running from the foothills of the Andes to the Pacific. There human habitation has been continuous from about 1,000 B. C. to the present. The valley is, in a sense, an epitome epito-me of the history of man. There culture advanced from primitive agricultural ag-ricultural communities to planned cities. There were times of war and peace, of prosperity and depression, of democracy and fascism. The record can be read, in broad outline, from the ancient habitation sites, lines of irrigation canals, adobe and earth pyramids which once were the bases of temples, tumbledown", fortresses Ion rocky promontories, and fragments of pot tery. These show the ebbs and surges of the tides of life among peo ples long forgotten. ; More than 300 archeological sites former locations of villages, cemeteries cem-eteries and politico-religious struc tures were located this summer by scientists of the Institute of Andean Research, it is reported by Dr. Gordon Gor-don R. Willey of the Smithsonian Institution who specialized in the settlement patterns of the long-for gotten Peruvians. DISTRAUGHT BECAUSE she could not find a home for herself and her 6-month-old daughter, Mrs. Barbara McGlynn, 19, Los Angeles, attempted at-tempted -suicide. Even the cheap hotel rooms In which she had been living with her husband, William McGlynn, former paratrooper, were closed to her after the baby was born. Recently they were forced to separate because of the housing problem. (International) Resin Coatings . Particularly resistant to corrosion by salt atmosphere, phenolic resin Coatings were widely used as prim-era prim-era on the ships of the navy. Of interest were the fast-drying primers prim-ers based on the so-called "gook" or dispersion resins. These resins were produced by reacting a phenolic phe-nolic resin with an oil (usually tung) and carrying the resulting varnish to an extremely high state of polymerization. The varnishes, actually carried to a state of complete com-plete gellation, were redispersed in solvents. In effect, this amounts to pre-drying the paint film under carefully "controlled conditions before be-fore it is actually applied. The pre-dried pre-dried film, like a lacquer, dries solely by solvent evaporation. Call at Your vico - pep nn STATION ' for GAS OIL ACCESSORIES CANDY GUM SOFT DRINKS CIGARETTES ' .
