A petition requesting the organization or-ganization of a soil conservation district, signed by 64 farmers in the northern part of Utah County, Coun-ty, has been sumbitted to the State Soil Conservation Committee, Commit-tee, Earl Smith of Lehi announced announc-ed today. The State Soil Conservation Committee is requested by law to conduct several hearings to determine whether or not the district is feasible, Its desirability and the boundaries which should be Included in the district. These hearings will probably be held some time the first part of December. De-cember. It is the responsibility of landowners to attend these meetings and inform the state committee as to their desires to-1 ward district organization. To date there are 31 organizations organiza-tions organized and controlled by local landowners. They are operated and controlled by local landowners. They are established only by petition of the landowners landown-ers and then not until a majority of the landowners, voting In a referendum, favor the organization. organiza-tion. '., Every landowner has a voice in shaping the policies of the district. dis-trict. Districts are managed by a board of five supervisors, two of which are appointed by the State Soil Conservation Committee Commit-tee and three supervisors elected by popular vote from landowners within the district. All supervisors super-visors must be landowners within with-in the district. The district, if organized, will be interested in such problems as erosion control, irrigation system treatment, drainage, land leveling, level-ing, pasture management, crop rotations, soil management and fertility, strip cropping contour cultivation, stubble mulching, range reseeding, range Improvement, Improve-ment, stock water developments, etc. In fact Mr. Smith stated that the district would be interested inter-ested in any problems connected with soil and water conservation. Those of us who have investigated investi-gated the activities of other districts dis-tricts throughout the state are convinced that the people in this section of Utah County should take advantage of the opportunities opportu-nities available through Soil con servation district organization, Mr. Smith said. - f t WAR BONDS va - - !
