The Provo Bulldogs virtually clinched the Alpine division championship when they defeated the B. T. high school, 41-26. American Fork defeated de-feated Pleasant Grove by a 43-28 score. The tax sale redemptions collected during the final quarter of 1939 have been apportioned to the various var-ious taxing unite of Utah county and checks were mailed last Friday, according to reports of County Treasurer Andrew Jensen. Collections for the quarter totaled (62 456 27, as compared to $100,699.89 for' the same quarter in 1938. The total amount received by the county treasurer during 1939 was $203,13o. YOUNG MAN INJURED IN MINE ACCIDENT Wayne Barnes, 23, of American Fork, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barnes of this city, suffered severe bruises when a rock fell on him during work Tuesday morning at the Ozokerite mine at Soldier Summit. Mr. Barnes was taken to the Price, hospital for treatment. The accident occurred during operations op-erations to reopen the mine,' it is stated. Mrs. Annie E. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jackson and Mrs. Olive Powell, outgoing members mem-bers of the Old Folks committee, were guests of honor at a banquet and dancing party Monday evening eve-ning in the new tabernacle basement, base-ment, given by the Old Folks committee. com-mittee. The party was an outstanding affair af-fair with a large crowd attending and enjoying a delightful evening. Sixty-three people were seated at the banquet table, which was cooked and served by members of the committee. com-mittee. The centerpiece was a lovely love-ly bouquet of red and white carnations carna-tions and red lighted candle tapers. Favors were tiny cups of candies. Mrs. Hyrum C. Evans was toast-mistress toast-mistress during the banquet. Program Pro-gram numbers included several guitar gui-tar selections by Jack Barnes and Wayne Peterson, a vocal solo by Mrs. Albert Van Wagoner and two original readings by Hyrum C. Evans, Ev-ans, paying tribute to the retiring workers. Robert S. Fox, stake Old Folks chairman, presented the three guests with beautiful little gold pins, as a token of appreciation for the splendid work they have done during dur-ing the past several years on the Old Folks committee. Each of the three guests responded re-sponded with short talks. Lehi people will be vitally inter ested in the announcement that a former resident, Dasil A. Smith, Weber county school coordinator, has been advanced to the post of assistant superintendent of the We ber county schools. The announce ment of Mr. Smith's promotion was made by Superintendent Keith Wal-quist, Wal-quist, following a meeting of the Weber county board of education, Thursday evening. Mr. Smith will replace William P. Miller, assistant surintpnripnt and clerk of the board, who Mon day was named administrative as sistant at the state tuberculosis hospital. Walquist recommended Mr. Smith over eight other applicants on the grounds he was better acquainted with the Weber school district, its problems and practices than any oi tne others, any f-"'whpm would be a satisfactory assistant."
