Swim ming, games, merry-go-round and refreshments were enjoyed- The first big Utah county swim ming championship tournament was held at Geneva Sunday, August 19- Some of the finest paddlers as well as other outstanding stars were there. The contestants met with some keen competition- Prizes were awarded the winners. The Fish and Game department are stocking the Mill pond with Perch and Cat fish, and fishing from now on will be legal- Since the big pumps have been put In, the water In Utah lake has become quite low and in order to save some of the fish they are stocking ths pond with fish from the lake. Mrs- Theodore Bateman, Mrs. Bertha Knudsen. Mrs. Freeman Royle, Mrs. Lenard Racker and Mrs- Inez Peterson entertained at a missionary shower party Friday evening eve-ning at the Bateman home In honor hon-or of Mr. Wilburn Ball, who leaves on a mission next month- Games, program and refreshments were en-Joyed en-Joyed by thirty-five guests. Mrs. Julia Vaughn entertained at the Love-ridge home In honor of Mr- Don Loverldge's birthday anniversary anni-versary at a late luncheon Monday evening. Mrs. Cluy Kelly and daughter, Valine, of Ogden are guests of Mrs. Kelly's parents, Mr. and Mrs- Theodore Theo-dore Pierson. Mrs- Jennie Nostrom and deed and Bruce, returned sons, home Monday, after an extended visit in California with her daughter, Mrs-E. Mrs-E. L. Beck- They visited many places of Interest and enjoyed a number of social event They report re-port having had a most wonderful trip. One of the outstanding social events was a birthday party given In honor of Mrs. Alma Allred of Lehi by Bishop and Mrs. John Collins Col-lins at their home in Los Angeles. Mrs- Collins was formerly Miss Lillian Lil-lian Allred of Lend, a daughter cf Mrs. Alma Allred- The occasion was Mrs. Allred's 60th birthday anniversary. an-niversary. Long tables were arranged ar-ranged on the lawn under the palm trees- A large birthday cake centered cen-tered the main table and bouquets of beautiful flowers, artistically arranged, ar-ranged, made up the table and reception re-ception room decorations. The guests included Mr. and Mrs, R. A Anderson and family, Mr- and Mrs. A. H, Allred and family, Mr- Ala Phillips and son, Donald, Bishop and Mrs. HelXred Allred and family, Mrs Jennie Nostrom and sons, Bruce and Reed, and Bishop and Mrs. John Collins. A duet was rendered by Mrs. Lula Anderson and Mrs. Virgil Peterson, "Some Sweet Day", with Miss Gale Webb at the piano, after which Bishop Andrew Field spoke and offered words of condolence to the bereaved. Closing remarks were made by Bishop Henry Erickson. As a closing song the chorus sang "Beautiful Isle", with Mrs. Lula Anderson at the piano, The benediction was pronounced by President A. Carlos Schow. Taps were sounded by the American Ameri-can Legion after which the grave in the City cemetery was dedicated by Ralph Strong of Alpine, a brother-in-law to Wilford Sketch Wilford Ray Johnson, the son of Neils Peter and Ardell Holman Johnson, was born December 4, 1889, In Highland, Utah. His grandparents grandpar-ents were sturdy pioneers. His grandfather John Greenlealf Holman, Hol-man, was one of the first company of pioneers. He crossed the plains eight times. His grandmother and grandfather Johnson came here to Lehi from Witham, Denmark, November No-vember 28, 1872, for the Gospel's sake and they were baptized members mem-bers of the L. D. S. church. He attended at-tended the public schools of Highland, High-land, Utah. At five years of age he had the misfortune of his mother dying which was sad for him. At eight years of age he was baptized a member of the church. Wilford was of a very independent nature doing the best he could to find work to help himself earn a living. This being the case he was never in one ward very long at a time to take a very active part In church work as he lived in mining camps most of his time. But when our country called for men to volunteer to go into the service Wilford enlisted in the 58th company, 166th Depot Bri gade, Camp ILewis, Washington, August 8, 1918, and received an honorable release. He died Saturday, August 11th, 10 miles from Park City, Utah, from a heart attack, being near 45 years of age at the time of his death. He died with a testimony of Jesus Christ and a love in his heart for his fellowmen. Immortality There is no death. The winds of yesterday nave nea to stir tne grasses otherwhere. Nothing shall die. The rose that bloomed last May Will wake next spring as sweet, as subtly fair. 4 II OUTING HELD AT SARATOGA The Utah county 4-H clubs held their outing at Saratoga Tuesday, August 21, with general chairman John Fox of Springville in charge The exercises commenced at 10:00 a. m. with a stunt program. The first number was a 4-H chorus from the girls of Kolob stake; demonstra tion of club work from Alpine stake girls; announcement of Lehi stake club girls trip to Chicago; a talk on proper shoes for health by Nebo stake; an Indion legend presented by Pleasant View gjirls; tap dancing danc-ing by girls from Kolob stake; Pro-vo Pro-vo girls gave a talk on health work; piano solo by Miss Fox of Sprtng- vllle; talk o nthe modern pig pen; "Mary Doesn't Live Here Anymore" given by girls from Thistle; boys chorus from Kolob stake. Payson won first place In contest stunt- At 12 o'clock a watermelon hunt took place. Leland Adams won first place. 12:30, luncheon- 1 p. m., water melon seed contest, Pleasant View won first place. Payson won the silver cup for best attendance and best stunt- The manager of the merry-go-round gave free rides to all 4-H club girls. The afternoon was spent In bathing and dancing. Mr. Lyman Rick announced the 4-H club exhibit to be held at Springville in September.
