She was Dorn April 6, 1931, in North 0 g d e n , Utah, the daughter of Thomas Herman and Alta Brown Neilson. She was raised in Taylor, Utah (west of Ogden) and graduated from Weber High School in 1949. She married Donald W. Fowler on December 27, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. They have had 53 wonderful years together. They are the parents of two daughters, three sons, and one foster daughter. She was active in the LDS church and held many callings throughout her life in all of the church auxiliaries. auxil-iaries. She served as ward and stake Primary president, presi-dent, ward and stake Relief Society president, and as a visiting teacher. She was called as a volunteer worker in the LDS Birth Parent program, served five years as a worker in the Mt. Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Temple, and supervised super-vised church humanitarian efforts. She was privileged to fulfill a mission with her husband to the people of Singapore and Cambodia. She led a life of service to others and was a good example to her family. She was very skilled in many homemaking tasks, including includ-ing quilting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, a sister-in-law, Beverly Neilson; and a brother-in-law, George Fowler. She married Orlo F. Hales October 1, 1941 and they were the parents par-ents of three children, Car-olin, Car-olin, Bob & Dent. They were later divorced. She married Virgil Ray Taylor October 16, 1992, in the Provo LDS Temple. Joy enjoyed serving in the LDS Church. The last 10 years, She and Virgil, served as church service missionaries at the Church History Museum and Conference Con-ference Center. She had a special creative talent exhibited in music, dance Ruth Goates Ruth Goates Wing, 91, died peacefully at her home Sunday, October 10, 2004, in Lehi, Utah. She was born in Lehi on November 9, 1912, a daughter of John and Winnifred Glover Goates. She was married to Glenn John Wing on December 15, 1933, in the Salt Lake Temple. Tem-ple. She was educated in the Lehi schools and worked for the Alpine School District as a teacher's aid at the Dan W. Peterson School for several years. She served as a teacher in the sunday school, as president and teacher of the Mutual Improvement Association, in the presidency of the Relief Society, as coordinator coordi-nator of the jr. sunday school, as ward librarian for 15 years, as Relief Society visiting teacher, as a Lehi Fifth Ward choir member for 30 years, and was in the singing mothers choir. She also was an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for many years. At the Lehi Arbor Day event on May 1, the organizers organ-izers handed out free seeds to families in the area for participation in this new activity. All registered participants partici-pants need to bring their home grown giant pumpkins pump-kins to the designated site for weighing and judging between 10 a.m. and noon. All prizes will be awarded award-ed at noon. Other activities that morning will include pumpkin pump-kin carving, a coloring contest, con-test, refreshments and a Edwin Gibbs Beloved father, husband, brother and friend, Edwin Godbe Gibbs, passed away October 5, 2004 of natural causes. Edwin was If born February Feb-ruary 7, 1922 in Salt Lake City to Mary Godbe and Lauren Worthen Gibbs. He married Irene Hafen June 4, 1960 in Provo, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Edwin graduated from East High School and served in the Army during WWII. Following his service serv-ice Edwin earned his Juris Doctorate from the University Univer-sity of Utah and worked in municipal finance, playing a key role in the financing of Lehi's swimming pool. Edwin was well known in the community as someone who would provide legal services to those in need. Edwin was instrumental in a plan that moved surplus sur-plus military buildings from Brigham City to Little Cottonwood Cot-tonwood Canyon, thus creating cre-ating the Alta Peruvian Lodge, his home for over 20 years. His family continues to enjoy the stories of deep powder and steaming swimming swim-ming pools that were the mainstay of those years. By gathering and photographing photograph-ing snowflakes on a piece of black velvet, Edwin designed the Alta Peruvian Lodge symbol that later became the famous "Alta Snowflake" logo.
