Warner Utah Valley Staff Pleasant Grove High School's football team dropped to 0-6 on the year after a 10-0 shutout by Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Friday night in front of a spirited homecoming homecom-ing crowd. The loss left the Vikings 0-1 in Region 7 play and in danger of losing complete confidence in their season. Not only are they coming off a shutout compliments of their rival, but the offense never got the ball inside the Timpanogos 20. Credit the T-wolves' r-.-v is V. The Vikings are averaging just 9.6 points per game and haven't scored more than two touchdowns touch-downs yet this season. Even more sobering is the fact that 28 of the team's 58 points scored on the year came in the fourth quarter of games where the outcome had already been decided. Owens returned to play on defense against Timpanogos, Tim-panogos, where he was joined by a physical defensive defen-sive unit that didn't allow the powerful T-wolf running game to boast of a 100-yard rusher for the first time this year. "Their defense was good, it was a hard-hitting game," said Timpanogos coach Frank Bramall. "Other than Springville, I'd say they're the best defense we've played." Timpanogos found the endzone just once against Pleasant Grove, and that came in the second quarter when the T-wolves put together a 70-yard drive that took 5:41 and feature a heavy pounding by Jerrit Lui, Timpanogos' bruising 220-pound running back. The T-wolves finished off the drive when quarterback Nate Fullmer rolled out to his right and hit running back Tyson Gonzalez with a pass in the left flat. Gonzalez Gonza-lez took it in for a touchdown touch-down with 14 seconds remaining to give Timpanogos Timpano-gos a 7-0 lead at intermission. intermis-sion. Pleasant Grove's only serious scoring threat in the first half stalled when Alex Lyons picked off a halfback pass at the Timpanogos 10. But the Vikings defense would get the ball back courtesy of Jake Hoyt, who intercepted a Fullmer pass at the Pleasant Grove 40. Timpanogos later tacked on a 23-yard field goal with 1:24 left in the third quarter quar-ter to take a 10-0 lead. The Timberwolves put together another drive in the closing minutes of the game and appeared to score on a 1-yard quarterback sneak, but Timpanogos was called for aiding the runner. The Vikings defense then held and got the ball back, but there was just 1:11 left in the game, not enough time for the offense to make Cross-country girls 6th The Pleasant Grove cross-country team took sixth in the varsity girls' division at the Nebo Invitational, Invita-tional, hosted by Spanish Fork on Friday. The Vikings had their chances on offense, driving the ball inside the Timpanogos Timpano-gos 30 on two separate occasions occa-sions in the first half, but came up empty both times. The first opportunity ended with the Lyons interception. inter-ception. In the second period, peri-od, another Pleasant Grove drive ended on the Timpanogos Tim-panogos 30 when the Vikings turned the ball over on downs. "We're still trying to find ourselves," said Pleasant Grove coach Dale Sampson. "We're looking forward to having Teddy (Owens) back on offense. He helped us a lot on defense tonight. We keep knocking on the door, we just can't knock it down." The offense should get a boost this week at Lone Peak with the return of Owens on offense for the first time since late August, when he left the game with what turned out to be a severe sprained ankle. "I expect he'll (Owens) be Fall Decorating items un mt mw, 756-2882 - , V ' sf . !'. . . j back. We didn't want to bring him back too early, so we've waited, but we can't wait any longer," Sampson said. "Our region is still wide open. I know we probably need just one region win to get at least a play-in game, but I don't want just one win. We just have to get ready for Lone Peak this week." Kickoff time is 7 p.m. JV dominates 37-0 The JV Vikings are on a roll as they improved to 5-0 on the season. Sean Broder-ick Broder-ick continued to kick the ball well for Pleasant Grove including the first points of this game in the form of a 32-yard field goal and later adding 5 PATs. Quarterback Quarter-back Kyler Frampton added a 5-yard touchdown moments after the field goal. Late in the first quarter, quar-ter, Ben Packer scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 6-yard run.
