A rather quiet d shy girl, Chunie lights W when on stage in front of k audience. Storytelling on age is fun, she says, "I like f hen kids are looking up me." Chunie enjoys playing Fer and is learning tae- Rn-do. Her favorite school subject is math, and Chunie will just enter fifth grade at Lindon Elementary. Elemen-tary. Wearing a coonskin cap, Trent Howard is a young master of a tall tale. His story.The Day I Rode the Bear" is a true tale of his uncle's encounter with a bear. His tale is not quite true, however, Trent said, "when my uncle rode the bear he was really riding it backwards." Trent enjoys storytelling. "It's fun," he said. This is his first year telling at the Timpanogos Tim-panogos festival. Trent is now a fifth-grade student at Valley View Elementary. A true outdoorsman himself, Trent said his favorite subject sub-ject is recess. Trent enjoys sports, especially baseball, football, and basketball. Dressed in pajamas, eight-year-old Joslyn Chad-burn Chad-burn had her audience howling with laughter as she told about "The Belly-button Belly-button Monster." Joslyn first read this story in a library book and spent a lot of time practicing practic-ing "to get good," she said. A natural entertainer, Joslyn said, "What I like the most is that you make the audience audi-ence feel good and sometimes some-times you make them laugh." Joslyn's friendly and outgoing out-going nature makes her feel at ease on stage and off. In addition to storytelling, Joslyn is a young violinist. She also enjoys riding her bike. Her favorite school subject is math, and Joslyn attneds Lindon Elementary. Talent often runs in families. fam-ilies. Sisters Kathryn and McKenzie Lowry will be telling stories at the Timpanogos Tim-panogos festival. McKenzie is a veteran teller, this being her second year as a Valley View storytelling representative. McKenzie's story, "Up, Up, Down" is the tale of young Anna who is always climbing up things and falling down from them. Things change, however, when Anna climbs to the top of the backyard tree and ends up taking care of her parents who have fallen while trying to climb up to get her. McKenzie enjoys telling the silly stories of Robert Munsch, author of "Up, Up, Down." It's a lot of fun learning the stories," said McKenzie. In addition to storytelling, sto-rytelling, McKenzie enjoys art especially drawing, riding bikes, and playing Barbies with her older sister sis-ter Kathryn. Eleven-year-old Kathryn Lowry is another talented storyteller. This will be her first year telling at the Timpanogos Tim-panogos festival, and she admits to being a little bit nervous. But when she starts telling "Chrysanthemum", the story of a lovely little girl learning to deal with teasing because of her unique name, Kathryn is as composed as a pro. She missed auditioning for the festival at Valley View because she was performing for her mother's second grade class at Cedar Ridge Elementary. However she auditioned through the Orem library and is one of the 30 students to perform at the festival. Kathryn's hobbies include riding horses, drawing, draw-ing, and playing the piano. She attends Valley View Elementary and is in the sixth grade. The Timpanogos Storytelling Story-telling Festival will take place on August 30-31.
