He lauded their "A Bag a Book and Me," which is a weekly take home reading program, as well as their new math program. "Our PTA spends countless count-less hours helping our children," chil-dren," Dr. Jacobsen said. Their level of commitment commit-ment matches that of the new principal. "It was worth it though," he stated. "Alpine is a great school district." He taught mostly in fifth grade, but spent time in other grades. He fulfilled his administration adminis-tration internship at Pleasant Grove Junior High and is happy to be at Manila as the principal. "I'm excited to work with the teachers at this level." His wife Jacqueline is a fourth grade teacher at Valley View Elementary. Dr. Jacobsen has been very busy this week getting ready for the school open house on Sept. 5. "Anyone's welcome," he said. "It will give the public a chance to see our Space Center and all the remodeling remodel-ing that's been done." with his wife and four chil dren. Teaching is a major part of family life since his wife is a second grade teacher at Mapleton Elementary School. The Jensens love the outdoors and Jensen especially espe-cially enjoys golf and fly fishing. "Pleasant Grove is like a second home to us, though" he stated. "I'm looking forward to an incredible year with the parents and students at Manila." HURRY IN FOR BEST SELECTION Sophomores enjoy first day at the high school By Kalyn Secretan Pleasant Grove High School greeted the new sophomore class last Thursday with their own day at the school and they had a big welcome party. Students began the day with a school scavenger hunt, as they entered the rooms in the hunt, the cheerleaders signed off their papers. The papers were later used for a drawing where the lucky winners received t-shirts. A Welcome Assembly featured fea-tured the students running for sophomore class officers. A slide show was presented with a welcome from the student body officers. The doggers, the ball room dance team, and the cheerleaders cheer-leaders all participated in Viking pre-game cookouts planned By Jessica Clark PGHS Correspondent Are you hungry? Following the assembly, the students met with then-mentor. then-mentor. The faculty at the school serves as the mentors, they new students are divided into groups and meet occasionally occa-sionally with their mentor group, and the student can go to the mentor with their concerns. The mentors went to the homes of all the new sophomore sopho-more students and presented present-ed them with a welcome packet and invited them to the Sophomore celebration. A pizza party at Battlecreek Park concluded the day. Attendance at the party will be rewarded with a Reimbursement Day sometime some-time during the school year. and off the football field. The Pleasant Grove High School PTSA and the student stu-dent council are teaming up to prepare a Viking pre-game pre-game cookout before every home football game. The grills are smoking at 6 p.m. on Sept. 7, Oct. 5 and 19. Kick off the homecoming game with a pep rally and food starting at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. Extreme Sports will be at the rally to provide the fun for free, and the What's New: The ries, songs, games, snacks and dress up. Moms must accompany their child. Back to School Stomp is Aug. 31 The Pleasant Grove Recreation Department is sponsoring a Back to School Stomp for all junior high age students. The dance will be this Friday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Community Center. Admission is $4 for students stu-dents without a junior high activity card and $3 for students stu-dents with a card. plates of food are still $3 or $4. A student plate is just $3 with an activity card, and an adult plate is just $4. PTSA member plates are $3. For $10, you can get a pre-game package with tickets to all four home game meals. Tickets are being presold pre-sold in the Pleasant Grove High School financial office or you can buy them at the cookout.
