Now, for the fourth consecutive year they are teaching conflict resolution skills at Grove Crest Elementary. The "HallMark" program 'Talking with TJ" is a series of video and follow-up activities which teach children some basic skills in working out their problems. Six lessons on communication, keeping anger under control, and respecting others point of view, are taught by the junior high students. Fred and "Beth Edvalson of Pleasant Grove were ,een helping with the Wheel of Fortune jgame and selling bags filled with rocks. .' The event is an enjoyable event for the Jwhole family. Prizes are given throughout Jthe three day exhibit, many demonstrations demonstra-tions are given and it is a great place to obtain en unusual gift. They had a tremendous crowd on Friday land Saturday. With school out on Friday in the Alpine School District a lot of scout and ;cub scout groups took advantage of the opportunity to see the displays set up by Jrock hounds and craftsman all over the jstate. Fred said that he especially enjoys the kids who come and ask questions about fa particular rock or mineral and where it is i .t found. Demonstrations were seen on a variety of things as painting rocks and making crystals in exotic shapes. All kinds of jewelry jew-elry was for sale, wood carvings, belt buckles, buck-les, lapidary equipment, fossilized shark teeth, fossils, arrowheads and all kinds of items made from rock. Displays were seen from rock hounds and craftsman traveling from many areas including Provo, Roy, Nephi, Providence, Bountiful, Orem, St. George, Beaver Dam, Arizona, and Castle Gate, Colorado. The kids had fun getting grab bags. The bags are made from fabric with a drawstring draw-string and filled with a variety of rocks. The bags are filled two or three times a year by the members with rocks gathered on field trips. At 50 cents a bag they are a real bargain for the kids. It was fun for the kids to play, "Wheel of Fortune." Various rock items, little bags of polished rocks, craft items and jewelry items were all placed on the numbers and the participants can spin the wheel to see which prize they get. The Edvalsons have been members of the Society for the past 11 years. Beth was in charge of the Wheel of Fortune area where they also have a lot of items for sale that interest the children. She has been serving as the secretary of the organization for the past five years. Fred is the field trip chairman. He is always open to suggestions sugges-tions where the group can go for a field trip. Some of the upcoming trips will be to Topaz Mountain and the surrounding area. They plan to visit the Eureka mines and the Wonder Stone Deposits near Vernon. They will also go of a trip to the Last Chance Ranch south of U.S. 70, it has one of the biggest deposits of agate in the state. m 1 TWO VACUUMS One Low Price! 5 lb. PGHS students learn what might be like with a baby By Kalyn Secretan The silence is often broken with the cry of a baby at Pleasant Grove High during a three week period when students stu-dents in the Adult Roles class take their turn caring for babylike baby-like dolls that are wrapped in receiving blankets and cry like a real baby. Students never know when the baby will start crying. Heads turned at a recent PTSA meeting as one of the Vikings of the Month, Kelsey Johnson was recognized and her baby doll began to cry. Kelsey was frantically holding hold-ing the key in place at the back of her baby in the hopes that the baby would stop crying. The key is hooked onto Kelsey's arm and cannot be taken off until after her two-day experiment experi-ment time is completed. A computer chip counts the number of times the head falls back and how long the baby cries. Kelsey explained it is a hard task to care for the baby. Her parents, Craig and Jana Johnson worried about their daughter getting enough sleep. The baby woke up three times during the night and one time it cried for one and a half hours and Kelsey had to turn the key repeatedly to get the baby back to sleep. The Adult Roles class is taught by Joan Smith.
