Most events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, at City Center Park, located at 250 East and Center Street. Alan and Karen Ashton, well-known well-known to many Orem residents as community builders and philanthropists, philan-thropists, are being honored as this year's parade grand marshals. The grand parade begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, and will follow fol-low a route that goes from 400 South and 800 East, north on 800 East to Center Street, and west on Center, ending at the Smith's grocery gro-cery store parking lot on Center and State. Citizens are asked to refrain from blocking residents' driveways or parking along the parade route after 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Armed Forces of the United States are also being honored in the parade, with representatives from each branch of the military invited to march. "It's a wonderful way to spend two days for a whole family kids, moms, and dads," Broderick noted. "We have one of the bigger parades in Utah Valley, and lots of good family activities that are not expensive. The activities are either free or of very minimal cost." One of the. free events that is sure to be a highlight of Summerfest this year will be the talent festival. Event chair Jan Clark has organized a program that will be headlined by a joint concert appearance by professional profession-al musicians Jon Schmidt and Peter Breinholt. Schmidt and Breinholt are slated to perform on stage in the park at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13. Clark said that the two performers did their first joint concert at Tuacahn recently. "For those who missed it then, be sure to catch it here for free!" Opening at 6 p.m. for the SchmidtBreinholt concert will be a group called Persona Non Grata, with special guest appearances by Gaye Beeson and Emily Galland. -Friday's performances will begin with Sunshine Generation at 5 p.m. and Timp Top Cloggers at 5:30 p.m., and will end with the announcement of the Taste of Orem winners at 9 p.m. The Taste of Orem is a bit of a culinary competition com-petition among local food vendors who opt to participate by offering low-cost samplings of their wares; the samples are tasted and judged.
