The Bruins' Kaycie Zimmerman scored in the first off a T-Wolf error to give Mountain View an early lead. Both run ners were safe. T-Wolf Stephanie Richins scored her team's run in the fourth after the collision between the two fielders. The last run came when Zimmerman scored for the second time of the game, this time off a JaNae Wright sacrifice fly. In their previous meeting, meet-ing, Mikalauski threw a three-hitter in a shutout performance. Timpanogos pitcher Lyndsi Hill was more dominant in that meeting. She allowed just one run on four hits and eight strikeouts. MARTIN HARRIS Times Sports Editor Orem scored early and often as the Tigers won a quick game against Pleasant Grove 11-0. The mercy rule went into effect after the fifth inning ended and the Tigers recovered recov-ered from a tough loss to Mountain View the day before. "Our kids showed character charac-ter to bounce back from such an emotional loss last night," Orem coach Paul Clark said. "They came out and played hard." The 11-0 score is an indication indi-cation of how good the bats were and also shows pitcher Devrie Downey's . dominance. domi-nance. The Tigers also backed up their pitcher with perfect defense. In the first inning alone, the Tiger defense robbed the Vikings of two base hits. Right fielder Jamie Layton ran a long way to catch a fly ball hit by Lauren Roderick. A few pitches later, Rachel Love snagged a line drive off the bat of Paula Rios to save another hit. "Defensively, we did some good things out there but we have to continue to get better every game," Clark said. The Vikings managed only a pair of singles off Downey, who did not allow a walk. Only one batter even got to three balls in the count. At the plate, the Tigers cut loose for 11 runs on nine hits and five walks. Her pinch runner, Jordan Clegg, also scored two runs. Eight batters in the lineup line-up reached base at least once against the Vikings and six reached twice. Alii Chapman walked twice and scored both times. She also singled once to bring Layton home for the final run of the game. Kristine McConkie delivered deliv-ered the first big blow of the game with a two-RBI single in the first inning. Third baseman Stacie Peay reached base the tough way. She took a PG pitch off the ankle. She also walked in another plate appearance. Lone Peak jumped out with a run in the first inning due to a walk and a wild pitch. The Tigers grabbed a lead in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Ryan Fehlberg. Lone Peak reclaimed the lead at 3-2 in the top of third thanks to three walks and an error. Neither starter made it to the fifth inning as it took five pitchers combined to finish the game. The Knight's relief could not help much as Orem scored two more in the bottom bot-tom of the third for a 4-3 lead. Trent Barney and Mike Morgan both hit solo homers. However, Orem pitcher Andy Wilding, who was throwing on only three days rest, gave up three more runs in the fourth. Wilding and the Tigers trailed 7-4 going into the bottom of the fifth. Barney hit his second solo shot of the game to chip away at the lead. Then the Lone Peak defense broke down as the center fielder and right fielder dropped to routine fly balls right off their gloves. It set up a two-RBI two-RBI single by McKinney. Matt Woolsey added another anoth-er RBI. Orem scored four runs with help of three Lone Peak errors. Yet another lead that would not last. Orem walked two batters after two outs giving Lone Peak's Benji Woahn the opportunity opportuni-ty to hit a two-RBI double for the 9-8 lead. - However, McKinney got his team the win but the experience sure tested the nerves of Coach McCoy. "I ate like five ulcer pills while I was standing at third," he said with a laugh. The Orem dugout was all laughs and cheers after McKinney's long ball.
