With the game tied, Cara led off the bottom of the seventh sev-enth with a triple. Orem elected to walk Kaycie Zimmerman and Mallary Gillespie to load the bases with no one out. JaNae made them pay with a single sin-gle to right-center. "These girls didn't quit," Mountain View coach Cal Jones said. "We weren't good early but we did enough to hang around till we could comeback." Early on it looked like Orem was ready to put the Bruins away. In the first, the Tigers' Alii Chapman scored on a single by Kristine McConkie but Orem left the bases loaded. Stacie Peay led off the second sec-ond with a single. After a sacrifice bunt, Chapman grounded to short and was out at first but the throw to third to get Peay trying to advance sailed out of play. Peay walked home. The Bruins tied it in the second. Gillespie walked and JaNae reached on a fielder's choice when the Tigers unsuccessfully tried to get Gillespie at second. Chelsey Mikalauski reached another fielder's choice as the Tigers again failed to get Gillespie, this time at third. Ashley Henry hit a two-RBI single to tie the game. Orem scored again in the third. Rachel Love's single brought home Karin Liechty, who was pinch running run-ning for Devrie Downey. It looked as if Orem put the game out of reach in the fifth when Marsha Heimuli brought Nicole Stratton home from third on a grounder. With a 4-2 lead, Downey cruised through the fifth. However, the Bruins had one more rally left in them. Gillespie shot a double to Photo by Martin Harris (above) Devrie Downey was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. With one out, Mikalauski reached on an error. The Orem first baseman base-man tagged Mikalauski with an empty glove while she held the ball in her other hand. Gillespie scored. After Henry grounded ground-ed out, Orem still might have weathered the rally but Kaylee Worthington hit an RBI-double to tie the game. Two outs and the game tied, Jones turned to his bench and Ashley Blackley came through. She belted a single to the outfield to score Worthington and give the Bruins their first lead of the game. "The mood in the dugout the whole time was that we could win this game," Jones said. "Chelsey kept telling the team 'we are in this, just get me some runs.'" However, it was Orem's turn to rally. With two outs, the Tigers went to work. Stratton singled bringing Downey back to the plate. She showed her abilities with a bat as she reached for a ball a low and out of the zone and lifted it to deep right field for double and a tie game. The Bruins walked clean-up hitter Heimuli but in doing it threw a wild pitch to move pjnch-runner Liechty to third. Then on a 1-1 pitch to Love, Mikalauski uncorked another wild pitch. This one, however, ricocheted back to JaNae and she delivered the toss to Mikalauski covering home. She applied the tag on Liechty to end the inning and set up JaNae's game winning hit. The Bruin victory ties the two teams for the region crown at 5-1. MARTIN HARRIS Times Sports Editor It was a classic pitching duel as the Tigers prevailed pre-vailed 3-1 against the red hot Bruins. In Mountain View's corner, cor-ner, Joey Bye was ready to win his third game of the year at the expense of the Tigers and clinch the Region Seven title for his team. The Tigers, especially Wilding and second baseman base-man Matt Woolsey, delivered deliv-ered to back up their coach's statement but it was the Bruins who drew first blood. After a leadoff walk by Chris Benson, Bye hit a one-out single and Brandon Dickinson connected con-nected for a RBI-single. Bye has pitched 11 innings against the Tigers in two previous victories, allowing just four runs. Tiger pitching has given up 18 runs in that same span to the Bruins. However, Orem coach Ray McCoy was not going to let history repeat itself. "Mountain View isn't coming here and winning the championship on our field," he said. as both pitchers cruised. Bye gave up a lone single to Brooks Christiansen in the first four innings and Wilding didn't allow another anoth-er hit the rest of the game after the first inning. In the fifth, Bye got into trouble walking the first two batters.
