FREEDOM BLVD. PROVO Orem's Anderson Timpanogos's Redd heading to Y signs with SUU MARTIN HARRIS Times Sports Editor Orem High School's Amberlea Anderson signed Feb. 5th to play soccer at Brigham Young University. Anderson decided on the school because "they have a really good program and it is close to home." "Plus, I have always wanted to go there," she said. Anderson will be joining three other soccer players from the City of Orem. Mountain View's Courtney Asay, Haylee Cuthbert and Ali Williams have already signed to play with the Cougars next fall. Anderson said, "I have had good coaches at Orem and on my club team that have always pushed me to be better. They are always pushing and encouraging." Anderson also credited the atmosphere and the coaching staff at BYU as being part of the reason she chose the school. Anderson is still in the process of considering several sev-eral potential majors. "I am looking forward to it because I know it'll be a challenge and I'll have to work a lot " Anderson said. i. is ' T v I t . if . - . , , MARTIN HARRIS Times Sports Editor Southern Utah University signed Timpanogos High School's Josh Redd to a football foot-ball scholarship on Feb. 5th. The free safety was one of the key factors in Timpanogos's best season ever. "Coach (Frank) Bramall and coach (Darren) DeGracie have really helped me," Redd said. "The Timpanogos players play-ers have been great. They have helped me fit in." Redd, who played only one year with the Wolves, started at Mountain View. He has been told by the coaching staff at SUU that he will have the opportunity to make an impact immediately but that was not the reason the senior chose to become a Thunderbird. "They have the top pre-dental pre-dental program in the nation. That was 99-percent of the reason," Redd said. Athletics have not been Redd's sole focus. He is also receiving an academic scholarship schol-arship from SUU. Redd has an easy formula for how he has been able to maintain good grades and play sports. "My mom grounds me if I get a B," he said. His mother insists that she has not needed to invoke that punishment because Josh has always gotten straight A's. On the serious side, Redd says he has always put academics aca-demics first. Photo courtesy of Orem High Amberlea Anderson signs with Brigham Young University's soccer team.
