Durrant Adelbert Doyle Smith Frank Edward Laga Thursday, February 5, 2009 Shirley Irene Taylor Toth Durrant, Dur-rant, 86, died Monday, February 2, 2009 in Provo, Utah. She was born Oct 4, 1922 to David Samuel and Detta Faye Miller Taylor in the home of her grandmother grand-mother Susan Miller. It was located where Albertson's now stands in American Fork. She attended American Fork schools, marched in the band and after graduating attended Brigham Young Academy Acade-my until her father David suddenly suffered a heart attack and she returned home to help care for him and run the drug store. A devoted daughter, Shirley worked for many years in the family owned Taylor Drug Store on Main Street. When WW II broke out, she moved to Salt Lake City to work in the production line of an arms manufacturing plant. As part of their patriotic duty, working ladies were encouraged to offer rides to the enlisted men stationed at the local lo-cal base. When Shirley spotted two servicemen walking alongside a road, she stopped for them and met Arthur Geza Toth. a member of the Army Air Corp from Dearborn, Michigan. Shirley was immediately taken by Arthur and he came to hold a special place in her heart. She flew to Texas and married him on Dec 18, 1943. They then made their home on base until Arthur's squadron shipped out. On March 6, 1944 while Arthur's squadron was airborn, his plane went down. Shirley received a telegraph announcing an-nouncing his death and returned to American Fork to be with her family. fam-ily. She gave birth to Artalee Toth on October 26, 1944. She worked at Taylor Drug and in the White House, a local clothing store. On Dec 28, 1952, Shirley married her long time friend and classmate, Boyd E. Durrant and they immediately imme-diately moved into their current residence, 162 North 500 East, American Fork, Utah. A devoted mother, homemaker, and wife, Shirley was very proud of her family. She excelled in her loyalty to and care for them. She also knew how to enjoy life. She loved to play bridge, read, and sew Christmas ornaments and created an impressive collection of sequin covered calendars. She loved to travel and enjoyed going on trips with her father to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. She and her family spent many splendid summers at the family cabin in American Fork Canyon. Shirley also set an example of service to others, working as a pink lady in the American Fork Hospital and in various other volunteer vol-unteer activities.
