The family owned and run restaurant is geared to make families welcome. Owners Joseph and Donalyn Ford and their four daughters all work there. Jennifer, their second oldest daughter is the assistant manager. "It is fun to work with your family." Donalyn said. She explained authentic Italian Ital-ian is what she feels is the key to their success. "We do all of our sauces and all food is made from scratch. The example, the Alfredo is actually ac-tually the cheeses combined," she said. "Nothing is prepackaged. prepack-aged. They are from family recipes brought from Sicily." Ottavio's began in San Diego and three cousins, Otto and Lenny Belvedere and Vic Bal-samo Bal-samo came to Provo to start another. The one in American Fork is the third, and it opened last December. Joseph works at NuSkin in Provo and said he often ate at Ottavio's there. "It became our favorite place." the Lehi resident said. T drove past (American Fork) every day and watched The Meadows starting to build up. I thought somebody is going to put a restaurant on that corner. cor-ner. It will be successful. Why not us?" The family got to work and began creating the restaurant, from the ground up. From a poster of a piece of Italian architecture with a row of arches, they decided to design de-sign the building with arches and pillars, and did much of the construction themselves. Joseph said he enjoys maps, and a large world map graces the waiting room. In the Provo restaurant, there are several murals. In zlWZ MATT SMITH North Count, Jaime Guzman, a cook at Ottavio's Ristorante Italiano, prepares a dish of Polio Alfredo at the American Fork restaurant, Friday. American Fork, the Fords decided to create one large mural. It depicts the Italian countryside and individuals enjoying food and each other's company. One is Leonardo daVinci and one of his flying machines is depicted nearby. The Fords plan on placing a three-dimensional replica in the restaurant. Others in the mural are a little closer to home. Joe, Donalyn, Jennifer, their other daughters Krystal, Kathryn and Shelly, and restaurant manager Chad Johansen are all included. Family members are continuing continu-ing to decorate the restaurant. There have been flags added from regions around Siena in Italy. Near the front desk there is a framed story on the wall telling about the flags and how they relate to a traditional horse race in the area. "We have tried to combine a lot of elements," Donalyn said. "You can come in a prom dress or jeans and have a good time." Another draw popular with children is the pizza oven where they can watch their food being baked. With seating for 275, Otta vio's also does catering and takeout orders. They offer the Garden Room for private parties. par-ties. Are they glad they are involved? in-volved? "Sometimes.. ..usually," Donalyn Dona-lyn said. "It is a lot of work." Joseph said. "It is a lot of fun, too," Donalyn Dona-lyn added.
