New Utah -Thursday, November J 1,2004 -Page 13; Utah Symphony concert to feature Sykes and comedic tribute to BYU-Utah footballl The Utah Symphony will help usher in the Holiday Season on Nov. 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. in Abravanel Hall with vocalist Jubilant Sykes. Sykes brings his distinctive baritone bari-tone voice, drawing on gospel and jazz influences to share songs of the season including many holiday standards. Sykes performance on Nov. 26 will follow downtown's Tights On' celebration when, at 6 p.m., lighting ceremonies and festivities festiv-ities will begin at locations throughout through-out downtown including Temple Square, Gallivan Center, and The Gateway. s' Concert-goers should come early to enjoy the lights before escaping into the warmth of Abravanel Hall for the festive performance. Utah Symphony & Opera would like to recognize the George S. and Dolores Dore" Eccles Foundation for sponsoring sponsor-ing its Pop Series this season. The concert, conducted by Scott CNeil, will also include a comedic tribute to the BYU-Utah football rivalry. CNeil is composing a piece reminiscent remi-niscent of Charles Ives' "Yale-Princeton "Yale-Princeton Football Game" which will include visuals of the Nov. 20 instate in-state battle and a musical re-creation of the events of that game, complete with marching band members. mem-bers. Audy John Van Zant 13 Nov. 1957 -6 Nov. 2004 - 1 ). f.'h Audy John Van Zant passed away suddenly on 6 November 2004. He was born the third child of Joe Douglas Dou-glas Van Zant and Ruth Ella Fay Tirey Van Zant in American Fork, 13 November Novem-ber 1957. He married Becky Lyn Nielsen on 14 December 1990. They have been blessed with 2 sons, Buck Joseph and Tyler John. Audy worked for many years as a foreman for Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed woodwork, fishing and in his earlier years was very talented in art, especially espe-cially drawing. He loved his sons. Another talent that surfaced sur-faced the last few years may surprise some who did not know him well. We all watched with awe and grat itude as Audy assumed the main caregiver role for his mother who has been very ill. Day and night, 7 days a week, he has shown tenderness, tender-ness, love, sacrifice and unusual expertise that came from his love for her. His mother expressed her appreciation many times for this last great service. He is preceded in death by bis father, Joe Douglas Van Zant and his stepfather, stepfa-ther, Sherman R. Fox. He is survived by his wife and sons of Pleasant Grove, his mother, Fay R. Fox, of Cedar Hills, and four siblings: Dutch of Cedar Hills, Jim (Janet) of Lehi, Reyna (Mike) Tucker of Sandy, and Ben, (Tina) pf . American . Fork. Dean, 83, born Feb. 1, 1921 in American -Fork,-Utah : ......... to Oi Sadie Buttars Dalley Sadie Buttars Dalley, 93, has been reunited with her husband of 67 years who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2000. She died on Nov. 4, 2004 in St. George, Utah. She was born on Sept. 20, 1911 to Maude and David Buttars in Clark-ston, Clark-ston, Utah. She married her sweetheart, Abram Fitzgerald Fitzger-ald Dalley on Sept. 23, 1930 in the Logan Temple. She lived in Dayton, ID, Roberts, ID and American Fork, UT. For the last few years, she has resided with her daughters: Myrna in Woods Cross; Margaret in Delta; Nola in Sandy and Geraldine in St. George, Utah. ' She had a strong testimony testi-mony of Christ and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities including Primary Prima-ry and Relief Society presidencies, presi-dencies, marriage preparation prepara-tion teacher and extraction worker. Her greatest love was her family. Bern L attended American Ameri-can Fork City schools, graduating grad-uating from American Fork High School. He was a WWII veteran who served our nation proudly in Appenines Po Valley, Italy where he obtained the rank of Corporal Corpo-ral in the US Army and earned the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal. Bern L worked with his father and brothers for many years in Dean Sand & Gravel. He was a cement contractor in southern California. Cali-fornia. He was also employed with Los Angeles City. He returned to American Fork where he enjoyed many years with the National Forest Service. Bern L was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Marcroft Dean, his parents, and brothers George, Milo, Arvell, John, Ernest and Wayne Dean, 2 grandsons, Brett Dean and Kevin Liddiard. He is survived sur-vived by his brothers Owen of American Fork, Morrell of Springville, and sisters Roberts of Missoula, MT and Janice Mayne ; of American Fork, eight children, Leola Lid-d Lid-d i a r d (Samuel) of Provo, UT; LaRee Nuttall (Gordon) of Simi Valley, CA: Bern L (Anita) of Ventura, CA; Day-Ion Day-Ion (Chris) Northridge, CA; Kayleen Allen (Terry) of Grapevine, TX; Christine Dean Herbert of Sitka, AK; Autumn Mitchell of Williams, AZ; Liza May of Orem; and step children Barnaby, B.J. and Christopher Christo-pher Vergara and Jacqueline Jacque-line Jensen; 26 grandchildren, grandchil-dren, 52 great-grandchildren, and as he put it "4 great-great-grandchildren with 2 in escrow." J . , ....... . i W rtl Dale Clifford ( Christensen Chris-tensen was born in American Ameri-can Fork on November 3, 1948 and died November 7, 2004 of a Buddenfij heart attack. He was the first child of Clifford and Joyce Abel Christensen. He is survived by his parents, par-ents, his sister Jana' Christensen, Chris-tensen, his brothers Scott (Tammy) and Alan '(Deb) Christensen and his eight nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loyal friends Terry, Laura, Randy, Bob, Elwina, and Denny. His friend Victor Colledge preceded him in death. Dale was a life long resi-. dent of American Fork and , had plans to build a home on his property in Alam-ogordo, Alam-ogordo, New Mexico upon his retirement. He loved visiting the beautiful forests there. Dale had a love for animals, notably the dogs he had as companions compan-ions though the years. Dale was working at the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility at the time of his death, where he developed many close friendships over the years. Dale will always be remembered for his enduring endur-ing generosity, which was unsurpassed. He gave to everyone who needed help, both financially and emotionally. emo-tionally. Dale's soul radiated radiat-ed kindness and love. He dearly loved his family and friends. The world needs more people as accepting, generous, and unselfish as Dale. His final desire was to continue helping others by donating his organs and tissues. tis-sues. He'-will be deeply missed by all who love him. Sarah Harley-(Princess) Harley-(Princess) was born June 1, 2004 to Vaughan I. and Bren-da Bren-da L. McK-i McK-i n n e y Harley of Eagle Mountain, UT. She passed away peacefully in her parents arms at Primary Children's Chil-dren's Medical Center on November 7, 2004. She suffered ' from heart and liver problems that became too complicated. Alyssa is survived by her parents and her brothers, broth-ers, Anthony (4) and Issac (3); her great grandmothers, grandmoth-ers, Shurley ' Ivie of Springville; Glee 'McKin-ney 'McKin-ney Gurney Lott of Ameri-, can Fork; her grandparents, grandpar-ents, Fred and Marilyn Harley and Grant and ' Bonnie McKinney both of American Fork. Alyssa had big bright eyes that were full of hope and love. She fought insurmountable odds with courage and the most pleasant disposition. Alyssa blessed our lives every day( of her five month stay. We are very grateful to have had so much precious time with her. We . would like to ! thank all the people who offered up endless prayers and service on our behalf. The prayers , were answered, we have been sustained and Alyssa was made whole. Thank you!
