The team American Fork took on didn't hail from Highland High,- but from nearby Highland, Utah. The White Sox were supposed to play Colt League ball this summer, but with the folding fold-ing of the Timp Colt League, they entered the Automotive League as a Class B team instead. In starting at the mound for American Fork, Mark Brown gave up a left-field double to Clay Johnson, but didn't let Highland make any runs. American Fork loaded the bases on no outs in the bottom of the first, and Jake Goodwin singled in two runs to open an eight-run rally, highlighted by a Brown double. Taking over the mound at the start of the second, Goodwin fanned Zach Worthen, and shortstop Devan Wilson grounded out the next two runners. The Angels took a 2-0 lead in the first, and in the second, Hunter Boone hit a grand slam to power a six-run six-run rally. In the bottom of the second, sec-ond, Angel third baseman Hap Holmstead , grounded out Jordan Devey, and pitcher Clayton Searle fanned the next two hitters. In the third, Devey finally final-ly held the Angel3 scoreless. On one out in the bottom of the third, Brandon Chorniak doubled in Brandon Ault to put the Cardinals oh the board. They slowly came back into the game. In the fifth, the Angels scored a run on an error and a Holmstead single. As soon as a Kyle Durfey single loaded the bases on no outs in the fifth's lower half, the Cardinals went on a scoring spree. Chorniak opened it with a tworun single. Jeff Chadwick singled sin-gled in a run, and Beck batted bat-ted in another two to cut the lead to 10-7. In the sixth, Shawn Hastings stole home to touch off another Angel rally. Hunter Boone's two-run two-run triple helped the Angels to extend their lead to 15-7. George Huckabee opened, the third with a right-field single, but got thrown out at second while trying to turn his hit into a double. Chicos retired Matt Thompson, and Richins grounded out to third, setting the Royals up for a possible double-digit loss. In the bottom of the third, Andy Devey doubled into . right. He led Chicos home in a steal, putting the score at 13-0. In the top of the fourth, Brandon Long and Olsen scored on an error and a walk to give the Royals hope of prolonging the game past the fifth. The Cardinals got a run from Derek Haskell in the bottom of the sixth, but the Angels didn't let them stage another long rally that inning. After Casey Wilkinson singled in Adam Bezzant in the seventh, Boone put his night's RBI total at nine by driving in two Angels. Chadwick doubled in the bottom of the inning. Upon loading the bases on one out, they staged their startling comeback, initiated initiat-ed by a Mike Brown walk. A White Sox error allowed three Royals to come home during the rally. By the time Duffin fanned Thompson for a third out, the Royals had pulled within with-in 15-8. In the bottom of the fifth, McKay Frandsen doubled into left, and Cook singled him in for the final White Sox run. The Royals retaliated with a double play.
