Miss Utah County, Jaclyn Hunt of Lehi, was named Miss Utah 2001 and will represent the state throughout , the coming year, particularly at the Miss America Pageant in September. Miss Hunt also won the community service award for her project encouraging organ and tissue tis-sue donation. In addition, several other "local" contestants earned awards at the scholarship pageant. Betsy Passmore, Miss Pleasant Grove, and former Miss Pleasant Grove Rebecca Marchbanks, representing rep-resenting Miss Utah Valley, were also named in the Top 10 semi-finalists and will receive $500 scholarships. Miss Passmore also won a preliminary talent award, and its $200 cash prize, during Thursday's competition. competi-tion. Larissa Kanno, Miss American Fork, won a $200 cash award for having the highest non-finalist judges' interview score. The Miss America Scholarship Pageant and its state and local affiliates, is the largest source of scholarship schol-arship monies for young women. Pleasant Grove starts Strawberry Days By Kalyn Secretan The Strawberry Days celebration cel-ebration is here again. Utah's longest continuing celebration is underway with the parade, the rodeo and a variety of activities to get the community involved in a week of festivities. The week long celebration started start-ed Monday with the free swim and Tuesday night with the McCoslyn and Peay concert. The Children's Parade and the first of four night's rodeo will start tonight. . The kids will have a chance to participate in the parade tonight and they can dress in early settler's attire or whatever they think is fun to wear. There will be a new route for the Children's Parade. The participants will gather at the Timpanogos Stake Center at 800 North on 100 West. From there they will march down 100 West and conclude con-clude at Allred's Parking Lot. Participants will receive a popsicle, a fun ticket for the events in the Anglers invited to Lindon bass Bass anglers are invited to compete in the Lindon Big Bucks Tournament, scheduled June 30 at Deer Creek Reservoir. Originally scheduled at Utah Lake, this event had to be moved, ; due to low water levels. ; Competitors are to meet at 5 a.m. for a half hour of instructions at the main marinalaunch area (with ; .the lodge). This event con-'tinues con-'tinues until 4 p.m. with a . late penalty of one fish per minute. All anglers should have a life jacket and sun block. The rodeo will begin each night at 7:30 p.m., but come early as the pre-rodeo entertainment, Mutton Bustin' and Lance Perry and the Prairie Dogs will begin at 6:45 p m. The tickets tick-ets are normally adult, $8 and kids, $3. Adults will be $6 on Wednesday and kids will be free with a paying adult Thursday night. All tickets Saturday night will be $8. The City Youth Council will sponsor a breakfast Thursday from 6 to 10 a.m. on the patio behind the library. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for kids. The Youth Theatre will present The Magical Land of Oz," Thursday and Friday at 1 , 2:30 and 4 p.m. The. performances per-formances are free and open" to the public. Come early, it fills up fast and seats may not be available. The Boutique will open in the downtown park Thursday at noon. The fun events will also be open Wednesday night. D.U.P. Tours will be held at the Pioneer Museum on Thursday from noon until 5 p.m. Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Friday, a favorite event for the kids will be the ftiKkFinn Day at Anderson Park from 9 a.m. until noon. Fish will be planted and everyone will have a chance to catch a trout. A musical group will not allowed to fish for 3 days prior to the tournament. tourna-ment.
