Jonsson, professor of electrical engineering science at Brighara Young University, is one of the 18 engineers to the nation to receive ihe Western Electric Fund Award for eicel-lence eicel-lence in instruction of engineering engineer-ing students. The award was presented by the American Society for EngU neerlng education afthe Rocky Mountain Section meeting Saturday Satur-day (April 26) at Utah State University Uni-versity In Logan. This high honor is the first of its kind Riven to a BYU professor. 1 Purpose of Ihe award t recognize and honor the recipients recip-ients and to serve as Incentives for them to make further slgnif-lean slgnif-lean contributions in teaching. The award also honors the recipients' re-cipients' Institutions and the environments en-vironments which have beea recognized rec-ognized and encouraged excellent teaching. Dr. Jonsson, i native of Mild-stedt, Mild-stedt, Germany, is also present director of the Engineering Analysis Anal-ysis Center at BYU. He received receiv-ed a B. S. degree in general elngineering from the University of Utah in 1944 and electrical engineering degrees--B.S., M. S., and Ph. D. -from the University Uni-versity of Utah in 1947 and Pur-duo Pur-duo University in 1943 and 1951, respectively. He is a son of John Jonsson of A. F. and a graduate grad-uate of American Fork High School in 1940. He is one c 18 engineers in the U. S. to receive re-ceive the Western Electric Fund Award of excellence in instruction instruc-tion of engineering students. In 1944, he entered the Navy's electronics school, later becoming becom-ing an instructor there. Dr. Jonsson Jons-son also completed a year of V J f -We SC. The Silver Spoon winner will be announced at the Mothers-Daughters Mothers-Daughters Luncheon to be held in the CSU Large Ballroom Sat urday, May 3 at 12 noon. Other AWS activities will include a panel pan-el discussion at 2 p.m. in the CSU Music Recital Hall entitled "Male Glimpses of the College Woman. A fashion show at 3p.m. will feature the late styles tor mother and daughters. Last event of the day will be a mother-daughter mother-daughter talent show at 7 p.m. in the recital hall. Jonsson post doctoral study in automatic control at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. In addition to belonging to several sev-eral educational, professional, and honorary societies, Dr. Jons son has published widely in scien tific Journals and participated in many professional sym posiums. Last year, he was a UNESCO field expert to the Middle Mid-dle East Technical University in Turkey, giving him an opportunity oppor-tunity to share and exchange engineering en-gineering technology. Since 1966, Dr. Jonsson has been chairman of the Utah Conference Con-ference on High Education Sub- committee on Governance, a committee which studies the conservation con-servation of the resources of the State of Utah and optimizes educational ed-ucational performance. Lchi Swingers Joined by Three tqvsrt Dencc Grsupi The "Lehl Swingers," square dancing group was Joined by members of three Salt Lake City clubs for a memorable occasion, Saturday evening at the Lehl hall. Included in the 102 present were, the "Happy Squares," "Swingln Singles," and "Rocketlers," of Salt Lake City. With them came Harry Baker, caller, and Matt Ereckerty, who assisted with the calling. Irvin Johnson and Ted Webb were the callers from Lesi. Ten squares of dancers participated par-ticipated at one time, alternating at intervals to allow the entire group to take part.
