Show BB revities I by By Betty G. Spencer . The sociologists and professional profes-sional marriage counselors can say all they want about formulas ' for marital happiness, an Am. ' Fork woman gives better advise! ; Learned discourses notwith- , standing, the secret of her happy marriage Is still a balance of ."give" and "take". What her husband doesn't give, she takes. This brainy gal has the system ;down to a fine art. Her success is nothing short of phenomenal, too, and she could make a mint of money by giving lessons to ' those of us who have been slow on the up beat. For instance, she and a mutual friend were shop ping downtown last week when they happened to pass the display window of a local furniture store. "There Is my birthday present," pres-ent," the schemer said happily. "How do you like it?" "It" Just happened to be a big, beautiful console color television set which my friend liked just fine. "Some present," she agreed, congratulating her companion on being gifted with such a snazzy remembrance. It bothered her, though. Her own husband is a practical man and his Idea of a present for the little woman runs more to a new vacuum cleaner or a mixer or a garbage disposal. That brand new color television which was to be delivered to her lucky friend took on gigantic dimensions. She thought about it until she was more than a little grouchy when her helpmeet returned from his dally labors. He Just happens to be working with the husband of the friend who was getting the elegant birthday present, too. One thing led to another and before she knew it, my friend was releasing her pent up emotions. The gift television set became a symbol that her husband didn't lHr her as well as her friend's husband liked her friend. Still with me? Her manly husband had the right answers, however, and set the record straight with a little reluctance. "To begin with," he lectured, after the air had cleared a little big. "Her husband isn't really giving her the television set. She Is buying It as a present for her self." And it was true! My very reliable informant said she beat it to the telephone and asked point blank, since the friend hadn't really said it was goiug to be a gift from her hus band. "It's Just part of my formula of give and take," laughed the birthday girl. Seems that early in their marriage the wife noted that almost all of her husband's free time was spent hunting. Ducks, rabbits, deer, bear, bob cat, moose, elk, you name it and he has hunted it. The thrifty wife rebelled that he should spend so much money on the sport. They worked out an agreement that the talkers in Paris could consider as a starting point for peace in Viet Nam. Everytime he would "take" money for a trip, he had to "give" her equal money to save. Now, doesn't that -seem fair? She does all she can to encourage encour-age his active participation in the sport. Right now she is talking about the great bear hunting down in the Henry Mountains. If her figures are correct, he'll weaken weak-en at least twice during November Novem-ber and go on weekend Jaunts. Does she object to being left at home? Not on your life! She's counted two or three times, but she is pretty certain to have saved enough money to go to Hawaii by Christmas.
