Show Carl W. Buehner Asks Voters to Weigh Claims of Present Administration AgainsfPrevious RepulcanRecords In his visit to Utah County Oct. 8, gubernatorial candidate Carl W. Buehner asked the voters to take a careful look at the statistical statis-tical record of the current state administration as compared with that of the previous Republican administration. During Governor Clyde's administration, ad-ministration, the state's popula tion was growing at a faster rate than now and the state's rank in per capita income was improving. improv-ing. In contrast, under the Ramp-ton Ramp-ton administration, we have dropped drop-ped from 30th to 36th among the states in per capita income. Furthermore, Fur-thermore, Utah's unemployment rate, at 5.6 percent is now nearly twice the 3.5 percent national average. This Is the best Governor Gov-ernor Rampton could do for us through his active support of the Johnson-Humphrey administration administra-tion In Washington. The Department of Employment Employ-ment Security estimates that we need 15,000-18,000 new jobs per year to keep up with the demand Claude Hunting Re-Elected ASC Chairman The Utah County ASCS Con vention was held recently in the Federal Building in Provo, for the purpose of electing a member to the County Committee for three-year term, and First and Second Alternate, each for a one- year term. Claude Hunting, , Chairman, Agricultural ' Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, took charge as Temporary Con ventlon Chairman until Frank Nelson was elected Permanent Convention Chairman. Mr. Hunting, Am. Fork, was re-elected for a three-year term and will continue to serve as chairman of the County Committee Commit-tee for the 1969 calendar year. Hal J.Scott, ProVo, who has two more years to serve in his term, was renamed vice chairman for the 1969 year, and Bert Hanson Spanish Fork, with one year yet to serve this term, was renamed Regular Member. for the coming year, ' Donald Obergp Samtaquin, was re-electetlldTirst Alternate for a one-year term, and Sherman V. Bearnson, Spanish Fork, was elected to also serve a one-year term as Second Alternate. There were 23 delegates from different areas of the county in attendance. Chairman Hunting points out that the ASQ county and community com-munity farmer-committees are in charge of local administration of such national farm programs as the Agricultural Conservation Program, the Cropland Adjustment Adjust-ment Program, the feed grain program, the wheat program, acreage allotments, the national wool program, the sugar program, pro-gram, commodity price-support loans, and storage facility loans. f ' 1 1-n V DEDICATED TO LAW AND ORDER 5 Pledged to working with Law Enforcement Officers and County Attorneys to assure effective and speedy prosecution. Department Depart-ment of Commerce, Utah's Increase In-crease in value added by manufacturing manu-facturing between 1964 and late 1967 was only four percent. This placed Utah at the bottom of the nation. Wyoming, the next lowest state, showed an increase of 16 percent, or four times as great. Mr. Buehner pledges to press a vigorous program of industrial development which will provide jobs to keep our talented young people In the state. Carl W. Buehner, Republican candidate for governor, while in Provo recently, called for a "tightening of the belt" In state fiscal policies. Mr. Buehner pointed out that Governor Rampton Ramp-ton has consistently supported the Johnson-Humphrey administration administra-tion policies In Washington and has shown a similar disregard for taxpayers in Utah. Mr. Buehner called attention to the fact that the Democrat governor and a Democrat legislature legis-lature .had greatly Increased our taxes and heavily bonded the state. We are presently 71.5 million dollars In debt, and the one-half cent sales tax Increase which the Republicans proposed for financing the state building program has gone into the general fund and state spending is up 38 percent, state payroll costs shot up 46 percent, state employees have jumped 41 percent. We do not need Johnson-Humphrey type spending In Utah, Mr. Buehner stated, and If elected, he would follow sound, responsible, fiscal policies. What this state needs Is a business administration administra-tion not apolitical administration he concluded. In spite of the glossy claims of the Democrat state administration, administra-tion, Utah has a new law and order problem and It is getting worse, gubernatorial candidate CarlW. Buehner claimed in a recent visit to Utah County. According to FBI figures, substantial crime in creases In Salt Lake City this year have been experienced in eight of the nine major categories. categor-ies. The only decrease being In the case of aimed robberies. Also of great concern to all Is the " question of drug addiction among our young people. Although not readily recognized, it has reached alarming proportions in some areas. According to federal narcoiles officers, the incidence of narcotics use 'n Utah Is very high and drugs are readily available avail-able in many schools. The law and order issue has reached prominence on a national nation-al scale and Mr. Buehner states he is mdy to work with a new "Republican administration in Washington to make this state and the nation a better place in which to live."
