McFarlane, well known civic worker, was named chairman of the American Fork Democratic Precinct at a special spec-ial meting held last week. Mr. McFarlane replaces Wayne S. Winters, who has served for three terms. Mr. Winters was recently named to fill the chairmanship of the Utah County Democratic Party. Eddie Smith was named Precinct Secretary, with Erma Sorensen retained as vlce-chairlady and Carma Greenwood retained as treasurer. treas-urer. Mr. McFarlane is a native of Salt Lake City, where he graduated grad-uated from East High School. DEMOCRATIC PRECINCT OFFICERS NAMED New officers for Democratic Precinct were named at special meeting. Carma Greenwood was retained as precincy treasurer; Byron L. Mr. Smith has served as councilman on the American Fork City Council for two terms and has been active in civic affairs of the community for many years. Funeral services for Sterling (Dick) Durrant, 66, were held at the American Fork Sixth Ward Chapel, Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. The family prayer at the mor- Two Local Youths Join U. S. Marine Corps Johnny Durrant and Bucky Piatt, graduates of American Fork High School in 1968, have joined the U. S. Marine Corps. They were inducted into the Utah Platoon this week in solemn ceremonies cere-monies conducted at the Utah State Capitol rotunda. Johnny is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Durrant, while Bucky is the son of Mrs. Rachel Moore. Johnny and his father, who was a member of the famed Mormon Battalion of the U. S. Marines during World War U, will be honored at the swearing in ceremonies. The two will receive re-ceive the unit flag. John M. Durrant Dur-rant saw combat duty in the South Pacific, wheie he earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals. The 80 man Utah Platoon marched in the Days of '47 Par -ade in Salt Lake City Wednesday. Immediately following the parade, par-ade, the platoon was bussed to the Salt Lake Airport for a farewell fare-well with their families. They were then flown to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, at San Diego. The Utah Platoon and their families were gpecia guests at a concert at Liberty Park on Tuesday evening, where the Marine Corps Band from Bar-stow, Bar-stow, California played a concert. con-cert. Bucky was active in sports during his high school career. He was named to the All State Football Team in 1967 and won numerous region, county and division di-vision honors for sports participation. partici-pation. He represented the community as a Boys State Delegate in 1967 and has been active in the LDS Church sports programs. Organ and postlude music was played by Thelma Friday. A life sketch of Mr. Durrant was written by a grand-daughter, Sharon Kelly, and read by a niece, Willa Nelson. Speakers were Francis Abel and George Durrant. Special musical numbers were performed per-formed by Leland F. Priday, who played a violin solo, "Oh, My Father," and Darrel Wanlass, who sang a vocal solo, "Face to Face." Pall bearers were Keith and Howard Durrant, sons; Dale Lawson, Max Nelson and Marion Kelly, sons-in-law; and Jim Durrant, Dur-rant, a brother. Mr. Durrant died Tuesday, July 16, in the American Fork Hospital. Hos-pital. He was born in American Fork. March 21. 1902, a son of William and Eliza Conder Durrant. Dur-rant. He married Pearl Gray, April 20, 1925, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a retired steel worker. Survivors include his widow, American Fork; sons and daughters, daugh-ters, Keith, Howard, Mrs. Marion W. (Nelda) Kelly, American Fork; Mrs. Max J.
