Show Open House Tuesday to Honor Fred G. Richards' Retirement Fred G. Richards, teacher and coach at the American Fork Junior High School is retiring at the end of the current school year after k long career in education. ed-ucation. He will be honored at an open house to be held Tuesday, iy :y J Fred Richards May 21 at the boys gymnasium at the school. The open house will begin at 8:45 p.m., immediately immed-iately following the ninth grade program. All former students, friends and the general public is invited to attend. The openhouse will be co-sponsored by the school and the PTA. Mr. Richards is a native of Pleasant Grove, where he attended at-tended elementary and high school. He obtained his bachelor degree at the Brigham Young Uni versity, majoringinPhysicalEd-ucation majoringinPhysicalEd-ucation and minoring in Botany and Zoology. It was while he was at the BYU that he starred in both basketball and track. Hs held the Cross-Country record in running for many years, winning the loving cup for the event three years in succession, thus becoming becom-ing possessor of it. He was also a member of the basketball team which won the Rocky Mountain Region Championship. As an educator, Mr. Richards served as athletic coach at Wasatch Was-atch High School, in Heber, for six years. He worked nine years in the Millard County School District as principal and athletic coach and spent the remaining twenty-five years of his teaching teach-ing career in the Alpine School District. He taught at the American Amer-ican Fork Junior and Senior High School until they were divided, and has since been athletic coach at the Junior High. An avid follower of sports, Mr. Richards plays golf as a hobby. He is also a gardener and enjoys building. He is an active member of the LDS Church. Mr. and Mrs. Richards are the parents of six children, Mrs. Carol Peterson, Minnesota; Fred E., Mid vale; John D. Orem; Stephen M., El Paso, Texas; Rosemary and Anne, American Fork; and they also boast 14 grandchildren. Mr. Richards will be further honored at a staff dinner at the American Fork Junior High School on May 22. Junior High Spring Musical Tonight at 6:30 The American Fork Junior High School will present their annual Spring Musical Concert on Thursday, May 16 (tonight), from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Boys' Gym. All parents and members of the community are cordially invited to attend. All of the A, B, and C Bands will be involved in the concert, including the orchestra and chorus. chor-us. The band and orchestra will be conducted by Robert Michie, band and orchestra teacher at the Junior High School. The chorus chor-us will be under the direction of Pamela Knudson, chorus instructor. in-structor. This is the last year they will be with the school. The women attended general sessions and department meetings to acquire new information concerning PTA activities and functions. outstanding.
