It appears that Coach Mower's ;xjuestion of who's quarterback has been answered by Randy Taylor. Randy is a junior of about 135 pounds. He is left handed, quick and agile and ; tood passer. He played most of ;the Pleasant Grove game and led Ithe attack on Carbon. Santa Monica, California for about 150 yards and does well with the exchanges on the ground game. Besides this he is a good runner himself, His favorite tar get is Kent Gurney, another jun ior. A pass from Taylor toGurney in the Carbon game was good for 73 yards and six points. Randy and Kent are good friends outside of football and along with this there being the only two Juniors who start, it might be conceivable that a lot more Taylor-to-Gurney passes will be seen in the future. Too often in writing football, all the glory of sports is given to those who score the touchdowns and are seen carrying the ball. However, one should remember that for every run, pass or kick, someone is opening a hole in the line, giving protection or down-field down-field blocking for the ball-car rier. This someone in football is called a lineman. This year, all A.F.'s line Is all new with the exception of Lar ry Larsen, who lettered last year. The two guards, Forrest Blaney and Larry Larsen and along with center. Vaughn Lewis, they plug and unplug the center line. Responsible Re-sponsible for the outside are Ed Curfew, Dennis Harward, and Bryan Carson, as tackles, and ends, Dale Greenwood, EarlMott and Kent Gurney. These linemen are the ones who are responsible for the backflelcPs efficiency. When they let up, it's time to give up. This week the Cavemen travel to Payson to take on the Lions. The game Is Friday, Oct. 1, (tomorrow) at 3:00 p.m. at Pay-son. Pay-son. If the gears are meshing as In the Carbon game, the red and white will set a hard pace. However, It remains to be seen if it can be met. I American Fork to Join in Observance. Of Fire Prevention Week Oct. 3-9 A concerted effort on the part of everyone from coast to coast to prevent fires was urged to day by the American Insurance Association as fire Prevention Week rolled around again. Fire Prevention Week this year is October 3-9 it always falls in the week containing October 9-the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. 'Last year estimated dollar losses caused by fires in the United Uni-ted States totaled $1,367,128,003 a decline of 1.3 per cent under 1963, said J. Dewey Dor sett, president of the American Insurance Insur-ance Association. However, in 1965 they are on. the rise again," he added. 'Vigilance is essential in holding down fire losses, and the best way to prevent unnecesary fires Is to try to keep them from happening." Mr. Dorsett gave high praise. to educational institutions in particular par-ticular for the setting, up of periodic fire drills to familiarize familiar-ize students with how to get out House numbering Change on Hob Hill to Stand Following a study of the situ ation of the change of house num bers of several residents In the Nob Hill area, the city council decreed Monday evening that the first findings of the city study committee have been confirmed and the numbers which have been changed will continue to be effective. A delegation of residents of the area met with the council at a prior meeting to ask that the street in the area be re named, but legal inquiry has determined that this means of action is not possible. The sug gestion was referred to the city attorney, who ruled that while change of the house numbers was permitted to remedy the situa tion, the street name could not be legally changed at this time. i i 1 1 i: i I i ii i- i i 1 1 ra t t aa ms mil ssam urns 1 1 1 1 i n j t::tt,i'i r i 1 1 i t aa tea I f t 1 t PtWlHWtt, 98imsxA rfMss8fti jjasawis isss-ass -tLMJu C FULL FEATURED DELUXE CONSOLE! They are equally im portant for similar protection of families at ho.me,' Mr. Dorsett declared. Every home," he added, "should have an escape plan. I suggest that if your home does not have one that you -draw one up tonight. 'Gather all of the members of the family together and figure out at least two escape routes, so that one of the two may be used if the other is blocked. "Assign adults and capable older old-er children to the job of getting the little ones and elderly people peo-ple outside the house fast. Get everybody outside, then call the fire department - if necessary from another location. "Never under any circum stance, re-enter a burning building. "Only by observing fire pre vention rules and planning, can we cut down the tragic toll in lives lost in fires, a greater loss in terms of value to our coun try than the destruction of property." Pointing out that 11,900 per sons lost their lives in fires in the United States last year, and that thousands more were injured in-jured in fires, Mr. Dorsett said: "A building can be rebuilt. A life lost can not be replaced." THE AMERICAN FORK CITIZEN, Thursday, Sept. 30, 1965 Dedication What uncontrolled fire can do Is summed up briefly as follows: Fire can destroy both life and property; it can destroy the continuity con-tinuity of business; lcan destroy de-stroy the productivity and purchasing pur-chasing power of employees; it can remove from the community a taxable industrial or mercantile mercan-tile establishment - a going concern con-cern on which the community depends. de-pends. It is disquieting to realize that without collective physical effort, modern fire apparatus, trained fire fighters, and compulsory fire laws, plus automatic fire protection, protec-tion, much 'of that which man has built would surely burn to the ground. The only positive ap proach to the fire problem is fire prevention. The roster of your local fire department contains .the names of a group of men dedicated to the cause of saving life and property from fire. Let them share their knowledge in the fire prevention committees of your chamber of commerce, your service clubs, your youth organizations, and your parent -teacher school groups'- and with anyone and everyone to whom they can bring a fire prevention message. People must be made aware that fire prevention is an indi vidual responsibility. Fires will be prevented if individuals actually ac-tually want to prevent them; individuals in-dividuals -must realize that only a habit of mind can accomplish what money haVjjotbeen able to do. The fire loss in Utah amounted to $4,250,000 last year, or about $4.25 per person. Sixteen lives were lost and nine of these were children, who were burned to death in their own homes. Let Fire Prevention Week -October 3 to 9 carry over the entire year. Fish and chips met in Merseyside, England, home of the Beatles, in 1865.
