Conference l "Promised Valley the musical mus-ical play which was produced as the major production event of Utah's pioneer centennial in 1947, .- will be presented,, again this year as a feature pf the 1961 MIA June Conference. The play, with book by Arnold Ar-nold Sundgaard and music by Crawford Gates, will be pro duced by the general boards of the Mutual Improvement Associations As-sociations , of the Church of Jesus Christ, of Latterday Saints. Tht? composer, . Crawford Gates, ''one of Utah's most gift" ed young musicians, will be the producer, of this June Conference Confer-ence festival eveftit. The other major, festival event ev-ent of this year's LDS youth leadesrhip conference will be the traditionally spectacular dance festival. Mr. Sundgaard, who was commissioned com-missioned to write the book for this -musical play, is a well-known well-known New York author. He has just been commissioned by G. Schlrmer Publishing Company, Com-pany, one of America's major music publishing houses, to write the liBeretto for an op-t'retta op-t'retta to be published by the firm as a feature of its cen-tenlal cen-tenlal observation. Music for this new work is to be written, writ-ten, under commission, by Alec Wilder. The optVetta is to be for the high school age range. Prominent among his other credits are plays included in the "Best Plays Anthoolgtes" for 1941, 1942, and 1943. He has written such plays as "Down In the Valley" and "Kitty Wake Island," which was Just recently rec-ently revived in an off-Broadway production. The' composer, Crawford Gates, is currently chairman of the Music Department at Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University. "Promised "Prom-ised Valley," his first .major work, was readily and enthusiastically enthus-iastically received. Since, he has composed music for the Hill Cumorah pageant Scenes from .the Book of Mor mon, Symphony No. 2) which has been released on recording. Society that. all women and especially the mothers mo-thers of the ward will come out and help celebrate the anniversary anni-versary of the organization at a special party to be held in the ward on Tuesday. March 14 at 10 ain. There is a clever program being be-ing arranged which will include a Work. Day Skit by Ruby Brown and a humorous reading to be given by June Call. Light refreshments will be served and a nursery will be provided for all the children. ' 10TH WARD Sister Rose Hinton from Lehi will be at the 10th Ward Relief Society, March 15, at 1:30 p.m. to give a book review at the annual birthday party. Also on the program will be a double trio consisting of Sisters Barbara Bar-bara Rlchln, Janice Brady, Phyllis Chipman, Kathleen Van Wagoner, Joyce Karen and Joyce Healy singing "Why A Singing Mother Sings," and a piano solo by Sister Kay Bell. , A light dessert will be served and there will be a baby sitter sit-ter In thp nursery. 4TH WARD The 4h Ward Relief Society will hold their Anniversary Social, So-cial, .Tuesday, March 14 at 10 ajn. The Visiting Teachers will be the honored guests for the day. A very nice program and luncheon lunch-eon has been planned and all ladles of the Ward are invited to attend. There will be a nursery nur-sery provided for the children. jTH WARD Theth Ward Relief Society wlllhold their Anniversary Party and Work Day in a combined com-bined meeting. From 10 to 11 ajn. there will be talks on "Fabrics and their" Care," "CI thing labels," "Upholstery and Rug Cleaning," etc. At 11 am. Kathleen Durrant will give the lesson in the home nursing course. From 11:30 to noon a program will be presented and at noon refreshments will be served. All the ladles in the Ward are invited to come and there will be a nursery for the children. 9TH WARD The 9th Ward Relief Society are holding the Annual Anniversary Anni-versary Party March 16 at 1:15 pm. V Helen Kimball will review the book "Applesauce Needs Sugar." A tea will follow. All 9th Ward sisters are urged to attend. A special invitation is extended ex-tended to the Relief Society Stake Board members and all sisters of the Alpine Stake. We feel very fortunate to have Miss Kimball come here for our meeting and we are sure she has a very special treat in store. SEVENTH WARD HAS TIME CHANGE . The 7th Ward has completed Dlans for their anual Anniver sary Party which is to be held Wednesday, March 16. The festivities Will begin wltn a dinner to be served at 12:30, to be followed by a delightful program. - A- cordial invitation is extended to every sister or the ward. The program will start at 10 p. m. with short talks by Luzon Gllnes and Verda Kit chen. A violin solo-by Connie Smith and a skit by Em ma Stelner, Barbara Ferguson and Rhonda Marshal. A bazaar baz-aar preview will be presented by Margaret Stoker, Hazel Bracken and Florence Sagar Music will be furnished by the Singing Mothers, a triple and double trio groups.
