Best 4-H swine project may win $400 scholarship The 4-H girl or boy who has the best swine project in the state this year will visit ode of the major livestock marketing market-ing centers in the nation as a delegate to the 1960 National 4-H Club Congress. The all-expense trip to Chicago Chi-cago is the top state award in the 4-H swine program given by the Moorman Mfg. Co., of Qulncy, Illinois. The state win ner will be eligible to enter, his 4-H record book in national competition for one of six $400 college scholarships also provided pro-vided by Moorman. The swine program brings to 4-H members latest methods In breeding, raising and market ing hogs. Better ways to feed, house and care for the animals are explained by the local volunteer vol-unteer club lt'aders and the County Extension 'agents. The value of sanitation, selection of breed, and keeping cost records rec-ords are emphasized in this specialized program. Information Informa-tion 'regarding current research in pork production Is made available av-ailable to the 4-H'ers through the ' state land-grant college' and the U. S, Department of Agriculture. Nearly 178,000 club members had a swine project last year, an increase of 13,000 over 1958 according to the National 4-H Service Committee which arranged ar-ranged the program and awards in cooperation with the Extension Service. To be eligible for a state or national award, the 4-H'er must be between 14 and 21 years of age, and have satisfactorily completed a minimum of three years in club work. Donald Riding draws McKay ; tree Donald Riding, son of Mr and Mrs. Millard Riding, had the privilege of drawing the McKay Family Tree for President Presi-dent McKay lor the family reunion re-union at Huntsvile on July 3.
