But Drive Safely SAFETY TESTS APPEAR IMPERATIVE Many careful drivers have had serious accidents through no fault of their own other than the fact that they were driving cars in poor mechanical me-chanical condition. Five hundred and forty-two accidents occurred in Utah during 1938, 24 of which were caused by defective brakes and 24 more with improper lights. Both of these defects could have been repaired for a small outlay of money and very little loss of time. These 48 accidents were responsible for the deaths of six people, 16 serious injuries and hundreds hun-dreds of dollars of property damage. Defective steering mechanism was responsible for six accidents causing caus-ing a loss of two lives and injuries to one. These mechanical defects in the ; majority of cases are due to lack of attention. Several local businessmen whose"1 ads appear on these pages are - equipped and trained to repair these defects.
