Naval David Allen Nelson. 18. a graduate of American Fork High School, has received an appointment ap-pointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, nominated Nelson last December based on his willingness to serve his country and his outstanding athletic record. "David is one of 54 nominees to the four U.S. service academies who will get the chance to attend the military school," said Hatch. David has been a 3.9 (GPA) student who has been ranked at approximately fourth in his class of 433. He was a member of the National Honor Society, recently serving as vice president of the American Fork chapter and has maintained a consistent member Am. Fork Lions celebrate Lions and Ladies of American Fork celebrated the 60th Anniversary An-niversary of their Lions Club in the Tiffin Room at ZCMI. It was a gala occasion. Many guests were present from various other. Lions Clubs, including District Governor Ned Deuell, Lt. Governor Don Wardle and Cabinet Secretary Wayne Durrant. He has been honored many times as Math Student of the Term and Week and has received many certificates of award for excellence in various subjects. David has been a member of VICA and FBLA. He has maintained a balance in athletics, participating in high school basketball and track. He is one of the top 10 cyclists in the State of Utah with a 1986 win in the Park City Bike 'n Tie (junior division). He is a member of the Wasatch Front Roadrunners Club, and the Timp-Velo Cycling Club. David has given generously of his time and talents in his community and church. He has had leadership positions in his LDS ward priesthood quorums, holds the rank originated many novel escapades, that kept the audience highly entertained. Additional entertainment en-tertainment was provided by the Dave Thurgood Family who sang three appropriate numbers. Governor Ned Deuell installed Elmo Young as a new member, sponsored by Larry Lassen. Lion Norman Clark installed Dave Thomas, sponsored by Pres. Art Haggen. Special events were the recognition given to two Monarchs -Clarence Grant and Dale Petersen. Clarence Grant was a charter Mandarin orange salad, fresh fruit, milk or coffee. Tuesday, June 23 - Baked pork chop, herbed rice, buttered peas, Clairmont salad, walnut apple cake, white roll and margarine, milk or coffee. Wednesday, June 24 - Lasagna, Italian green beans, tossed green salad with dressing, oatmeal cookies, whole wheat roll and margarine, milk or coffee. These very good, nutritious meals are served every weekday at the Senior Citizen Center at noon. Each household will receive five pounds of cheese and one pound of rice. The Senior Center will not serve any meals on this date. It will be open for distribution at to a.m. and wilt continue until 1 p.m. or until all commodities are gone. Smith graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. While at Westminster, she was on the Dean's List. Smith is a 1982 graduate of American Fork High School. Westminster College is a private, independent, four-year liberal arts college with a student population of 1,450.
