Show Page 8 0 R E M TIMES Thursday, October 9, 2008 Bruin football blanks Provo; soccer edges TBirds Eric May NORTH COUN'r CORRESPONDENT Mountain View quarterback Dust in Thicker threw for 105 yards, completed 7-of-10 passes pass-es for two touchdowns, while rushing for another TD to lead the Bruins to a 2G-0 victory over Provo in Orem on Friday night. The Bruins' (34. 3-1) defense kept Provo out of the end zone during the entire Region 7 game, and bailed out the Mountain View offense twice after matching a Bruin fumble and an interception with three Provo turnovers. The Bulldogs (Hi, 1-3) lost their reception leader, Andrew Miles, to a knee injury in the second quarter on a kickoff return which limited the Provo offense which was held to just 180 yards of total offense. "We usually don't have too many turnovers," said Bruin head coach Teko Johnson. Timpanogos football fall to stingy Spanish Fork Ryan Comer Pleasant Grove may not be the only team in Region 4 with a stifling defense. Friday night against Timpanogos. the Spanish Fork Dons proved their defense may be just as tough. Dons quarterback Breck Lewis threw four touchdown passes and the Spanish Fork defense de-fense limited Timpanogos to just 129 total yards of offense as the Dons overpow ered the Timber-wolves, Timber-wolves, 34-7. The 129 yards was lower than last week's 166 at Pleasant Grove. Even Dons head coach Matt Christensen couldn't help but feel surprised afterward. "Region games, we expect a dogfight." Christiansen said. "We moved the ball on the ground. We didn't turn the ball over." Spanish Fork (2-0, 4-3) did turn the ball over once, but it came late in the fourth quarter with the Dons already ahead 34-0. "Huge," Christiansen said of the victory. Led by Kjersti Secretan, the Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game and went on to sweep the Region 4 match 25-16, 25-9, 25-18. "It's something you always hope your team comes out and does," Ingersoll said about the fast start. Along with the impressive serving by Secretan, the Pioneers Pio-neers were also led by Lindsay Day, Elle Brainard and Miranda Parkinson, who finished the match with nine kills apiece. "No one had to carry the whole offense on their shoulders," shoul-ders," Ingersoll said. Despite spotting the Pioneers (8-10, 3-2) an 80 advantage to start the first game, the Tim-berwolves Tim-berwolves (2-6, 04) held tough, scoring eight of the next 14 points to trim the Lehi lead to just six. The TWorves couldn't get any closer, though, with the Pioneers eventually pulling away. The T'Wolves started strong in the second game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Then, with the game tied at six, the Pioneers went on another huge surge, scoring 19 of the game's final 22 points. "It's important to know you can put teams away," Ingersoll said. "Runs are huge. Mountain View also had strong showings from Heather Glassford, who had five kills, six digs and a whopping 16 aces, and Rachel Steele, who recorded five kills. The Red Devils won Games 1 and 2 25-21 and 26-24, respectively, respec-tively, but Mountain View took Game 3 25-23 and the fourth game 25-19 to pull even. Then the Bruins won Game 5, 15-12, to complete the comeback. Chelsey Schofield had 29 kills, eight aces and 17 digs for Mountain View, while teammate team-mate Heather Glass ford had 13 kills and 12 digs. Timpanogos remained tough in the third game, but as was the case all evening, Lehi proved to be even tougher. TWorves coach BreAnne Mo-len Mo-len was pleased with her team's ability to play well at times, but knows the Timberwolves are capable of better. "We need to team how to keep it going," Moten said. "Mentally, as a team, we need to decide focus is our main goal" The Pioneers will remain at home to face undefeated Pleasant Grove (24-0, 50) on Thursday. Soccer ' I Tuesday, Oct 7 Timpanogos 6, Pleasant Grove 1 : At Reasant Grove, Mckenzie Adams and Gel Dickson scored two goals apiece to lead the Timberwolves (12-30, 8-2-0) past Pleasant Grove (2-11-2, 2-7-0) in Region 4. Adams scored the game's first goal, and Dickson followed with two goals, then Mal-erie Mal-erie Jaramillo put one in to give Timpanogos a 4-0 halftime lead. Adams and Shelby Bruning each scored in the second half for Timpanogos.
