Rette Speight Nf;tH ouv i S'A'f Instead of just buying a wig from online suppliers or giant mall store, Diane's Wig Shop in Orem covers more than the basics. "There's two advantages to my store," said owner Diane Thompson. "We're set up like a hairdresser salon, so you don't have to try on the wigs in front of everyone. ... We also have many, many years of on-site experience." Thompson has been in the wig industry for over 37 years, and says that wigs are more popular than ever. "Most of our clients are chemo patients or women with hair loss," she said. "But not always. Some working women just like to be able to sleep in a few extra hours. The wigs are just so realistic that you can't tell they're wearing them." An average synthetic wig costs anywhere from $100 to $300 in her shop, but a full wig isn't always the only option. "A lot of people think that they have to wear a whole wig because their hair is thinning," Thompson said. "Some women have thinning hair just like men do. So we have hairpieces to just fill in the top." In addition to wigs and hairpieces, hair-pieces, the shop specializes in "seamless" hair extensions for individuals who want a more "updated" hair extension. These seamless extensions involve bonding the extensions exten-sions to the real hair, instead of sewing or gluing chunks of hair to your scalp. 'Thompson said. "There's no glue, no bonding," bond-ing," she said. "It's much more natural, it's very comfortable for teen girls or whoever wants to have them in." Thompson said that her years of experience contribute more than most people could learn in a classroom. Her knowledge has been built up over the years from lessons by other wig experts. To best keep wigs looking their best, Thompson prefers clients make appointments to ensure top-notch service. "Beauty schools don't really teach a lot about wigs and care," she said. "There really isn't any way to learn this other oth-er than on-site experience." Because her Orem shop has been so successful, a new and smaller shop has just been introduced in Lehi at the Lehi Barber Stylist shop. "We definitely keep busy enough, or I wouldn't have enough business to keep my shops open," Thompson said. Rage Fitness grand opening Rage Fitness on 121 E.
