Will the decision have any impact in Utah? taste Thursday, May 29, 2008 "I'd be surprised if it had, if Utah were to follow in suit. I obviously don't agree with their decision being as Utah is such a family-oriented state." I Jody Slagowski "I feel very strongly against it. I think they should have kept it and way it was. I'm pro-family. pro-family. As for it affecting us here in Utah, I would hope that our civic leaders would keep it the way it's been ever since I remember." Jose Delgadillo "I don't have one. I just think it's kind of disgusting. I don't follow Utah values but I think it should be men and women. That's the way it's been." I Misha Jenkins "It might be OK there because be-cause it opens different doors and opportunities from men and womea" I Kate Erickson h4 ... fn iHVv A) "I think it will have an impact. im-pact. The more states that accept it the more states that are likely to accept it. I'm still working on my opinion." I Susan Warden "Probably not here in Utah because it's such a conservative conserva-tive state. I'd be really surprised. sur-prised. As for gay marriage, I feel it's a really complicated issue. is-sue. People say it's immoral but then they'd rather have them living together unmarried rather than being married. It's one of those things that I don't get why people get so hung up about it." I Briahna Bushman y 1 A -- .-A a t .1 -.. "Personally, I think they have the right to be married. I have and have had gay friends. I don't think it will change the traditional meaning of men and women getting married. Marriage between the opposite sexes has had enough trouble as it is." I Wendy Thompson "Honestly, I don't know too much about it. I think people should be able to make their own choices. I think it will have an impact everywhere. "I think they shouldn't have done it. 1 don't know if it will impact Utah. It might." I Jennifer Hedrick Usually when there's a change, it affects other people of the world." I Andrea Wagner Emily Marlowe NORTH COUNTY STAFF I once heard a quote that a stay-at-home mom hears the word "mom" close to 60 times an hour. Is the number per child or for a group of children? chil-dren? I'm not sure, but 1 know in our home it is per child. That means I have four children chil-dren that can talk, so I must be hearing this sweet word "mom" at least 240 times an hour. Some days 1 am sure it is closer to 400 times an hour. I always know that summer is fast approaching when the children say my name more. "Mom can I play?" "Mom. can I have a snack?" Mom, can I go outside?" Mom. can I watch a movie?" "Mom. can I, can I, can I...?" I try to remember that one day I am going to miss hearing hear-ing this word "mom" so much, but as for today, 1 am trying to figure out a way to answer so many questions in a patient and loving manner. I am also trying to find a way to keep our children happy all summer. sum-mer. Our children's idea of a happy hap-py summer would be running the neighborhood, watching television, or playing video games all day long. My idea of a happy summer is to keep their reading levels at the grade level where they should be, do a little swimming, visit a beach, and maybe hit a parade pa-rade or two. But most of all I would like to keep our children chil-dren and the neighborhood children happy with food. We need to meet in the middle somewhere. I will keep my open-pantry policy for our children and the neighbor children as well. This means that anyone that walks through our door is welcome to anything in the pantry, without asking. This keeps our kids in our home, and helps to bribe our children's friends to have the desire to hang out in our home as well. This is comforting to me. I feel it is important to know our children's friends, and to know our children the best I can. I will also keep my cook in' place hot and try to have a de- "I disagree with the decision. Whether or not it will affect us here, I think it will have a small amount of impact. But I don't think it will impact us greatly because of the makeup of our community." (And if their mouths are lull. 1 hey can't say mom quite as much!) I am sure 1 will hear the word mom more than ever in the next week The first week of summer is difficult. It is finding the boundary of what the kids can do. and how farlhe limits can be pushed. 1 will try to have a sx-t iul lunch waiting that last day of school w hen our kids come home from school. It will be the firsl day of summer in our home, and 1 am sure alter they spend that last hour in school, the first thing 1 will hear as they walk through the door will be "Mom. what's for lunch?" So. I will prepare now and have a plan. 1 will have a delirious lunch waiting for them Until next week's hatter hat-ter chatter, may you have a plan for the summer, and if you think you hear the word "mom" more than I do.
