The competition was organized or-ganized by the Canyon View PTSA and was open to student bands from any secondary school in Orem. Laura Price, the school's leadership vice president and one of the event's coordinators, said the decision was made to open the competition competi-tion up to other schools for last year's event in order to help promote the event and to let more bands participate. "We wanted to mix it up a Me," Price said This year, a dozen total bands auditioned from several different schools, and participants partici-pants Were chosen based on 4 Orem High School has released the honor rod for the second term of the 2007-2008 school years. Last year's event raised just over $2,000, and the increased profits from this year's concert demonstrate how popular the event can be. I think a major cause of cheating is the amount of pressure that is placed upon students. We are constantly reminded by parents, family, and teachers how important getting an education is. To live up to these standards we disregard dis-regard the morals that were also stressed. We think it won't be too bad if we only do it this once, justifying the 'action by noting not-ing that most kids do it. Nor would we want to disappoint our friends if they need the help and we know the subject. Pressure is put on us by both our peers and the adults we associate with. Even though in Utah we tend to have higher standards, stan-dards, due to the fact that the predominant religion is LDS which places a high importance impor-tance on honesty and integrity, integ-rity, this does not eliminate the fact that cheating is something some-thing that goes on every day in schools. We need to realize though how hindering it is to students who consider it just another norm. loss ssaol mm own Conservatory, 7 "V v ----- Jy 7T I I I ilk I LLAJJL Richard Foote Ross Schofield 1 |
