These 12 students entered those outfits into the Make It With Wool competition: Bree Woolstenhutaie, Amy Thomas, Brigette Peterson, Kristen Er-ickson, Er-ickson, Keri Erdmann, Haley Jeffs, Ahson Sabin, Elise Corbett, Ashlee Curtis, Tregan Roney, Sydney Tittle and Kristin Kris-tin Bowles. All 12 students qualified for the state competition, and five students placed in the winners circle, including Keri Erdmann, a sophomore whose wool dress took first place in the competition's competi-tion's junior division. Keri won a sewing machine and a fine piece of wool to use for her next project, as well as a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the national competition later this month. Keri said she has been sewing sew-ing for at least 10 years and enjoys making projects to give as gifts or to wear herself. Keri estimated estimat-ed that she worked on it for at least 24 total hours at home as over. I've thought of how fun it would be to go not only for the stars, but also being a huge movie guru. At work a week or two ago I realized no matter how calm people believe they are there are still things that leave them in complete com-plete awe. This was exactly what happened hap-pened to me while the fflm festival last thing on my mind. It was two Sundays ago and I was the closing checker. "It was really hard to have to redo parts," she said. Susanne Gillett, the OHS sewing sew-ing teacher, helped all the contestants con-testants with their projects by providing the motivation and guidance necessary for them to finish, even when more stitches were being removed than were being completed "They work for perfection," Gillett said. "They've probably prob-ably made the outfit three or four times by the time they've picked everything out." At the same time, Gillett sees value in the competition because it shows students that the end result is attainable, even if it may seem impossible at first. "They gain confidence in themselves that they can accomplish ac-complish a task that can seem overwhelming," she said. "I don't let anyone give up." Gillett has encouraged students stu-dents to enter the competition all 14 years she has been at front of me. Usually good with words I couldn't even think of what to say to the man who created "Jaws," "Jurassic "Juras-sic Park," "Indiana Jones" and countless other films. As soon as he walked out after buying apples and gum my boss turned to me and said, "That was Steven Spielberg." We both grinned and I'm sure we both thought of running out after him. The night manager then came up after we told him and eagerly asked, "Did he sign a credit card slip? What'd he pay with?" To this we replied he paid with cash and all of ME mm vErtll$aiK3iliES Only 45 minutes from Provo, Soldier Summit Estates combines substantial value with accessibility to the Wasatch front's metropolitan valleys. For Keri, the best part of the competition was seeing her efforts finally pay off as her project took shape. , "It was really fun when it started coming together and started looking like a dress," she said. Kristen Erickson was awarded the contestant's choice recognition. In the end, Keri said she would definitely enter the competition again because she enjoyed seeing the other contestants' con-testants' projects and knowing that hers had a shot at winning. "It was well worth the experience," expe-rience," she said. According to Gillett, the patience and perseverance students learn through being involved in the competition are just as valuable as the sewing skills they perfect when completing com-pleting their projects.
