Drama director Agnes Broberg began the program about five years ago, she said, to give the students as much opportunity as possible so they are prepared to audition for scholarships andor theatrical performances beyond high school. Seventeen of the members of last year's THS Productions Company were offered scholarships schol-arships in either performance or music, Broberg said. The class is based on a similar program pro-gram at Hillcrest High School. Students are required to audition for a spot in the company. com-pany. They are also required to have taken Drama III, and to have at least a 3.0 GPA. Company members then audition audi-tion for and participate in a performance schedule of four productions during the year, and learn dance and music along with acting. Additionally, the company members have responsibilities throughout the year for costumes, cos-tumes, props, and publicity for the productions, giving them a wide variety of experiences in theater. "I always try to pick something that's going to be challenging for them," said Broberg. "They do a major performance per-formance every quarter, and that's their grade." This year's scheduled productions pro-ductions are "An Evening of Shakespeare" (Oct. 2); "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (Nov. 9,10, 12); "Julius Caesar" (Feb. 26,27, 28); and a compos- Bri Borup The life of an average teenager teen-ager is looking more and more like the life an adult working full-time. Broberg said an annual all-school show, one-act one-act plays, and Shakespearean performances are open to the school at large. "We also have a comedy sports team that we are forming, form-ing, which is open to all who want to join," she said. Broberg was asked if having the students work on the productions pro-ductions as classwork elevates their performances beyond what could be accomplished during after-school rehearsals. "Absolutely. Absolutely!" she stated. over six hours, and usually that doesn't even mark the end of our school day. Gull is continuing to donate her time, assisting with blocking and other vital tasks. "We told the kids the other day that Denise keeps me sane, and they laughed," Broberg said. "We're both crazy! We think so much alike that we finish each other's sentences, and it's like we've been sisters sis-ters all of our lives, and didn't know it." Because of the extra help, Broberg said, "the kids get a lot of one-on-one time. They put on a good show." Gull said of the Productions workout fetish, so we then have to go to the gym and workout for an hour. Add in showering, dinner, extra homework, and maybe an hour or two of just hanging out you are left with one full day. It teaches them a lot. I think they gain respect re-spect when they have to learn about every aspect of a production, pro-duction, and it's amazing that they have the chance to learn it in high school." Members of the Productions Company spend a lot of time together, and informal help sessions for someone having trouble with their homework or needing to catch up are not uncommon. "(The students) become very much a family." Broberg said, "and they care about each other. And like a family, they have their little 'tiffs'." Still, lifetime friendships are formed, and company members mem-bers continue to support each sleep. Ask any kid in high school, the most hated part of our life Is not homework, mean teachers, teach-ers, or unfair curfews, but a lack of down time. Everyone knows the standard amount of sleep one should get each night is eight hours, but in my life, on a good day, I'm going to bed at midnight and waking up at 6:30 a.m. Sleep is part of a healthy lifestyle, and I would like to QteTO(fiB.CEftfl'liiliiHi Find New Si Used Building Materials & More for a 07 LESS at our Home Improvement Outlet Factory demo Little Giant Ladders $100 off retail Never-installed Amsco & Aspen windows $6.50sq ft .
